reading materials, attempting to prevent incarcerated people from reading about
the outside world while also silencing their voices to prevent the public from

hearing the truth about what's happening inside the prison industrial complex.

Scanning

1. A person can only send 5 pages per envelope, o sending in legal rescarch, help, and or
educational materials will be impossible

constantly be seanned off center, so you will miss part of your documents sometimes

3. The originals ae trashed! No more drawings from loved ones or important documents

hances ofit being lost n the mal, and causes the sender of the mail to wonder ifit goelost
before or after it was scanned.

7. They say s a secuity thing because it will prevent drugs from coming i, but we all know.
the war on drugs i a farce & if money is o be made, somebody will ahvays find a way to make
i 1¢'s just another scam & a business deal s these prison proficers can make more money.
‘Complaints have been made by prison staf, of being intoxicated from handling incoming mail
‘While Sudics by medical professionals have found it impossible o be affected by dircetly
handling certin drugs. Especially while wearing gloves. Otherwise wouldn't mailmen always

8. Surveillance, each document will be recorded, and available for unlimited serutiny and
aceusation. As selling point, mail scanning service companies are bragging how itisa
survellance tool hat prisons can use.

9.1¢s part of a bigger problem. Everything will be moved to the tabler. Some places are using
tablets as books, charging $.03 per minute o read. Imagine trying o learm to read, seudy, and
do rescarch at that rate! Everything s being centralized around the tablets, which il reduce
access to what types of reading materials will be availabe to readers. Recently a man went on
hungersrike on death row; scheduled to be exceuted in a it over a year, He uses te ablet to
bring awareness o his unjust execution and to communicate with the outside world so he can
stop his exccution. His phone call kept being dropped on the tablet, and every second counts
when fighing for your life. Tablee functionaliy can ierally become a lfe and death situation.
Add the mail scanning functionality to that and you have too many opportunitis for error.

Place is beyond fiscked up. My fise week here n quarantine, an inmate had a temper tantrum
50 he broke a ablet{we have ablets here bew we can text, go on certain apps,video calls read
news, watch movies, cc.) The co’s came and called code red and told the inmate to put his
hands on the stair el he inmate complicd. Then one co holds his hands so he couldn’ move
and the other co stareed beating the inmate, kneeing him. The inmate took a beating, we all
searted bangin yelling, wee Yl doin?” Then the inmate head butted the CO and the other one.
body slammed him. The inmate started seizing cuz he anded on his head but the CO put his
knee on his back while dude is shaking, convulsing, and foam coming out his mouth. He
couldn’c breathe. We al stated bangin. They thought it was gonna become George Floyd shit
They hogtid him with cuffs ventully while he sl sizing and dragged him out... I never
found out what happened to him but I heard they do thar a lot here. These co’s are asholes,
they don’ give us rec if they don'efellike i, they're always “shore on sff”so ' ahways
locked down in population. This s the worst al I'e ever been bro, i’ not the inmates I the
COs. Sometimes they don

even have enough trays o feed us so | get fucked cuz I'm the last
cell. These COs are lazy AF, racit AF, and really go out of their way to make our lives
