Philly, PA- Rumor is that in Philadelphia, at a recent Cocksparrer show, Philly Keystone State Skinheads (KSS) leader Anthony James (A.].) Olsen and Vinlanders Social Club (VSC) member Pat Fahy got into a confrontation with some hardcore kids. What started the argument is unknown but what is known is that Olsen pulled a knife, though he did not use it, before flecing with Fahy. Chicago, IL- Some chi-town 77’ jumped a lone punk kid for his cell phone and then kicked his dog. Days later.In retaliation, some anti-racists allegedly stalked their leader (Conor Looby) near his home and smashed his head wide open with a foreign object. He quickly abandoned the young lady he was walking with. Gotta love it. Philly, PA- According to a flyer circulating on social media, Atlantic City “Skinheads” (ACS) band Aggravated Assault was scheduled to play a show at the Outlaws Biker Gang clubhouse at 2103 E. Somerset Street in Philly on January 10th. Philly Anitfa shut the show down within 48 hours of hearing about it. “We at Antifa Philadelphia are happy to announce that the show has been cancelled. ![On Stormfront, the largest neo-nazi bulletin board in the US., one contrib- utor announced that he was heading to Ukraine to volunteer his services to Right Sector, and urged other westerners, especially those with military experience, to “come to the aid of fellow nationalists in Ukraine and help found the first nationalist state in Europe, since 1945” But on the discus- sion thread that followed, nobody else offered to join him, and only some of the comments were supportive. Criticisms included, “If you help Ukrainian Nationalists invade Russian parts of Ukraine, you will put yourself on the wrong side of history” and “This so called “Ukrainian revolution’ is noth- ing more than the USS. and the UK. stirring up trouble AGAIN, in another country” Other Stormfront threads took a more neutral approach. A second con- tributor lamented, “Why do White people kill more White people??! Canit they see that ZOG is manipulating them like sheep going to the slaughter- house?!” while another urged far rightists to brainstorm ways to prevent war and “loss of white lif¢” in Ukraine, such as the idea that Russia could buy Crimea from Ukraine. “This would prevent Ukraine from going to the International (Jewish) Usury Fund and allow also the ejection of some large section of Tartars [sic] (non-white muslims [sic]) from Ukraine.” On the Traditionalist Youth Network website, Matt Parrott of Hoosier Na- tion called the Ukrainian conflict “ideologically ambiguous” and said he wouldnit pick a side ntil “one faction or another may unambiguously align with the global identitarian vision” On The Occidental Observer site, Kevin MacDonald, a prominent white nationalist intellectual, wrote that “Ukraine is a textbook case of the costs of multiculturalism, a story of competing na- tionalisms.” but warned Ukraine against allying with the European Union, since EU anti-nationalism leads to “the obliteration of all traditional Euro- pean national cultures” “A better solution” he suggested;’ would be to break up states like Ukraine with large ethnic divisions into ethnically homoge- neous societies..” Many American fascists are suspicious of Ukrainian fascists’ right-wing cre- dentials. Aryanism.net declared “Authentic National Socialists do not col- laborate with a regime as corrupt as that of the USA, that supports Isracl and is controlled by Jews, and do not allow themselves to be used as geopolitical pawns.” On the other hand, the same author wrote that Right Sector “seems to represent authentic National Socialism (I really hope I am right about SOUTHSIDE ARA 59](anti-racist-action-zine-6-south-side-chicago-ara 59.png)

But Mi- chacl McGregor of Radix (successor to AlternativeRight.com) argued that even Right Sector isn’t fascist enough, claiming that the group is “dedicated to a type of civic nationalism where the interests of preserving a state...s more important than that of preserving their race or even that of their own ethnic group” Writing about the Euromaidan protests before Yanukovych had fled Kiev, Vanguard News Network (VNN) wrote that “the Jews and the internation- alists (this of course includes America) are angry because the Ukraine won’t “play ball’ with the globalist agenda of free trade, global government, non- white immigration, massive debt via [International Monetary Fund] loans, hate-crime laws, and other horrible things” In a follow-up article, VNN added that “Western governments want to bring the Ukraine under Western influence so they can use it as a possible ‘weapon or at least as ‘watchdog’ against Russia [which] too often goes against NWO [New World Order] or Jewish interests, e.g., selling sophisticated missiles to Arab countries like Syria” Unlike the openly pro-nazi VNN, the Lyndon LaRouche network presents itself as progressive and anti-fascist, and when the Yanukovych government fell, LaRouche’s Executive Intelligence Review proclaimed “US.A. and EU, With Ukrainian Terrorists, Establish Nazi Regime? This is essentially the Russian government line, although the LaRouchites combine it with their own elaborate conspiracy theories, notably that both the EU and the USS. government are really controlled by the British empire. From this perspec- tive, Ukraine’s upheaval was simply a putsch carried out by western govern- ‘ment operatives, in which popular forces exercised no agency of their own. ‘The LaRouchites give no credence to the Yanukovych government’s corrup- tion and repressive brutality as factors that outraged many Ukrainians and led them to revolt. A related analysis was offered by USS. supporters of Aleksandr Dugin, such as Global Revolutionary Alliance. ![an “empire”” Dugin addressed the Ukraine crisis in a recent interview on the Counter-Currents Publishing website, which blends white nationalism, antisemitism, and European New Right ideology. He argued that members of the anti-Yanukovych movement were united not by a desire for political change or closer ties to the EU, but simply by “their pure hatred of Russia” Healso found a way to criticize the Euromaidan movement both for includ- ing neo-nazis and for including progressive groups: “The left wing liberal groups are not less extremist than the neo-Nazi groups.... We find especially in Eastern Europe and Russia very offen that the Homosexual-Lobby and the ultranationalist and neo-Nazi groups are allies. Also the Homosexual lobby has very extremist ideas about how to deform, re-educate and influence the society.... The gay and lesbian lobby is not less dangerous for any society than neo-Nazis”" Dugin also argued that the hope any Ukrainian fascists might have of pursu- ing a course independent of major global powers s an illusion: “There is no ‘third position; no possibility of that.... The same ugly truth hits the Ukrainian ‘nationalist’ and the Arab salafi fighter: They are Western proxies. Itis hard to accept for them because nobody likes the idea to be the useful idiot of Washington.... “There is land power and sea power in geopolitics. Land power is repre- sented today by Russia, sea power by Washington. During World War 11 Germany tried to impose a third position... The end was the complete de- struction of Germany. So when even the strong and powerful Germany of that time wasn’t strong enough to impose the third position how [can] the ‘much smaller and weaker groups want to do this today? It is impossible, itis aridiculous illusion” However, Counter-Currents also published a sharply different argument by Greg Johnson, who referred to Dugin as the Russian regimes “apostle and apologist...whose credibility with ethnonationalists should be reduced to zer0 by now”” Johnson offered the most sophisticated far right analysis of the Ukraine crisis that I have seen so far. ![ident Viktor Yanukovych had to go [because he] is a crook who plundered his country and was essentially selling its geopolitical alignment to the high- est bidder in order to retain his grip on power” Johnson noted that the far right groups Svoboda and Right Sector had played a remarkably prominent role in the Ukrainian revolution, but as part of a coalition “which also included centrists, Leftists, feminists, gay rights advocates, and ethnic minority agitators, including Jews, Tatars, and Arme- nians.” He argued (echoing Michael McGregor’s point quoted above) that Right Sector “fall far short of National Socialism;” and that ‘of all European nationalist parties, Svoboda s probably the most radical and consistent, yet it is also one of the most successful.... Unfortunately, despite an admirable political platform, Svoboda is at present committed to maintaining the arti- ficial Ukrainian state” And unlike Dugin (or LaRouche), Johnson refused to embrace the Russian government: “Like many White Nationalists, I admire Viadimir Putin because he is an important geopolitical counter-weight to the United States and Israel... he has sought to address Russia’s demographic crisis, and he looks and acts like a real-life James Bond. But Putin is not an ethnonationalist. Indeed, he imprisons Russian nationalists and is committed to maintaining Russia’s current borders, which include millions of restive Muslims in the Caucasus. Johnson conceded that if “Putin were to take back the Crimea, virtually rid- ding Ukraine ofits Russian and Tatar minorities and leaving Ukraine small- erbut more racially and culturally homogeneous, it might be a case of doing the right thing for the wrong reason.” And he hoped that Svoboda and other ultranationalists would eventually bring about “national autonomy for all peoples within the current Ukrainian borders” ‘These debates highlight the complexity of the Ukrainian upheaval. A pop- ular uprising has replaced a corrupt, repressive government (representing a pro-Russian capitalist faction) with a coalition of “austerity™promoting neoliberals and fascists (representing a pro-EU capitalist faction), which now faces military intervention in the Crimea by Viadimir Putin’s Russian government. None of these regimes is on the side of Ukraine’s ordinary peo- ple. INTRO
ARA and other antifascist groupings have existed in Chicago since the late
1980'. For the most part, the organized antifascist presence has continued
to exist and have typically been amongst the more active and successful
antifascist groupings in the US. The most recent incarnation, South Side
Chicago Anti- Racist Action (now of the TORCH network), are celebrat-
ing the end of our 5th year of antifascist activity. Starting back in 2009 we
set out with extreme dedication, to destroy organized fascists in our state,
eventually expanding outward and doing serious work in the midwest and
elsewhere. When we first started, the group to beat was the Ilinois National
Socialist Front (INSF), descendants of Bill Whites ANSWP, led by Phillip
Anderson. At this time, there was also a huge call out by the ARA network to
shut down David Irvings US tour. This first year saw not only some very suc-
cessful confrontations between south side ARA and the INSE, but Irving’
speaking event held at the Edelweiss restaurant in Chicago was immediately
shut down when a violent melee ensued between antifascists and neo nazis
in attendance. Shortly after, in 2010 the INSF was scheduled to march in
downtown Chicago, a bold move and an obvious challenge to Chicago anti-
fascists. After tons of pressure from our side, the INSF had a pathetic turn-
out of 4 unprotected nazis who were quickly attacked leading not only to the
end of the march, but the arrest of two of the attending neo nazis. These 2
‘major victories, along with several other smaller successful battles, and an
impressive ability to expose white supremacists, strengthened our resolve,
and solidified our reputation as an antifascist force to be reckoned with.
Over the next 4 years, we would face many more internal and external hard-
ships, always coming out stronger and more intelligent than before. We
‘managed for the most part, to keep our excitement and dedication and went
on to have several more noteworthy successes. A few of these successes in-
clude the eventual end of the INSE the shuting down of the local NSM unit
before they even began, the forming of the TORCH network, the hosting
of 2 national antifa conferences, the shut down of the White Man march
in Centralia, IL, the infiltration and exposing of the local ANP, successful
clashes with the Trad Youth Network, continuous pressure on David Irving
across the midwest, antifascist benefits and prisoner support for several peo-
ple including the Tinley Park 5, the publishing of 5 (now 6) annual antifas-

cist zines, home demos, and several street confrontations and disruptions of
neo nazi individuals, groups, and events in Illinois and across the country.
With any action we have been part of we have always tried to critique our-
selves and be honest about our successes and failures. This being said we
genuinely believe that our presence in Illinois has helped to create a fear and
paranoia amongst the fascists that we hope will last for years to come. A fear
that has led the once seemingly hopeful neo nazi activist community into a
state of disarray and inactivity. To say that their own failures and the role of
the state hasn't also helped to create this disfunction would be a lie. We also
realize that repercussions are always a possibility and more importantly that
white supremacy and reactionary tendencies are festering and live beyond
the confines of flag waving organizations.
Since our forming years we have seen friends go to jail, we have suffered
scrapes, bruises, state harassment and spying, but yet we are still here and.
are still active. We have outlasted any rival crew that has existed in this city
since our inception. It has always been our dedication, brains, strategy, an-
onymity, and eventually our experience that helped lead us to constant vi
tories over those who in some instances were more physically intimidating.
Over the past year we have continued to expose and confront the fascists
and white supremacists who have tried to rebuild or form a new and we will
continue to do so.

On May 13 2012 Rose City Antifa exposed Tom Frederick Chris-
tensen, a member of the Portland punk scene at the time, as a neo-nazi at-
tempting to gather information on leftsts. Specifically antifa. Since then,
Tom has moved to Chicago and is attempting to make connections (with

Pier Zambrano, commonly known as Pier Novikov AKA “Subtropical’ is
a 43 year old white nationalist DJ living in Chicago. He first popped up
on our radar several months back when he was seen making countless an-
ti-semitic and anti-black Facebook posts. Pier clearly scems interested in
the preservation of european heritage and has constantly blamed Jews and
non-whites for what he sees as the downfall of society. His obsession with
survivalism and the idea of returning to a more primitive or tribal lifestyle,
along with his aggressive desire for racial separatism, are very represen-
tative of a variation of radical right wing ideology called “national anar-
chism” Pier has iron cross tattoos on his arms as well as slightly altered

as The Order. In 1998, McGiffen and five other members were arrested by
the FBI on weapons and explosives charges in connection with alleged plots

blacks, Jews, and civil rights organisations. McGriffen and five other de-
fendants pleaded guilty, while a sixth was convicted in court. McGiffen re-
ceived a seven-year prison sentence.

Mark Wachtler, also known as Mark Watson, is a 45 year old white
nationalist living in Chicago. Mark is the founder and editor of the “Oppo-
sition New Network’, which serves as the headquarters for his three publica-
tions; Opposition News, Illinois Herald, and whiteoutpress.com.
Initially, the Whiteout Press site does not appear to be a white nationalist
website. Whiteout Press tries to maintain an image of neutrality in order
to appeal to a larger audience but after reading close it becomes quite clear
where their politics lie. In 2014, Whiteout Press reposted the call out for the
“white man march’, writing their own preface which stated;
“Readers may disagree with the notion that white people are being discrimi-

tim for simply admitting that the long-held notion i actually true”

zine directly linked to the well known neo-nazi group the National Alliance.

premacist leanings. Opposition News posted an article in favor of the AFP

white nationalist scene and aids in the destruction of i, but after his recent
return to white nationalist activism (detailed below), we figured wed share
his spineless fence walking ways.

Rumor is that in Philadelphia, at a recent Cocksparrer show, Philly
Keystone State Skinheads (KSS) leader Anthony James (A.].) Olsen and
Vinlanders Social Club (VSC) member Pat Fahy got into a confrontation
with some hardcore kids. What started the argument is unknown but what
is known is that Olsen pulled a knife, though he did not use it,

(ACS) band Aggravated Assault was scheduled to play a show at the Outlaws
Biker Gang clubhouse at 2103 E. Somerset Street in Philly on January 10th.
Philly Anitfa shut the show down within 48 hours of hearing about it.
“We at Antifa Philadelphia are happy to announce that the show has been

‘The political crisis in Ukraine has been boiling for months and
has been made up by a complicated political situation informed by a wide
range of political ideologies.
A significant element of the crisis has included far-right, fascist leaning
‘groups, namely the Svoboda Party and Pravy Sektor (Right Sector). The
Svoboda party frames itself simply as pro-Ukrainian, but their extensive
political program (http://en.svoboda.org.ua/about/program/) includes a
number of ultra-nationalist and anti-immigrant positions consistent with
fascist parties.
Svoboda was active in the Maidan protests and maximized their position
to achieve power within the newly established government- again, a typical
power move of fascism. They obtained three powerful posts in the interim
government: acting chief prosecutor, deputy prime minister and chairman
of the National Security Council
Both Right Sector and Svoboda present themselves as legitimate political

parties had candidates in Ukraine’s presidential election that recently took
place on Sunday, May 25. Right Sector's candidate was their leader Dm.
ytro Yarosh, while Oleh Tyahnybok was Svoboda's candidate. However,

extreme nationalist party
Supporters of these fascist groups have been active here in Chicago. It was
alleged in an on-line release that 40 fascists stormed the UE hall and dis
rupted an anti-fascist teach-in before leaving this Right Sektor fler.

JOCK PALEFREEMAN SOLIDARITY
On July 25th, Chicago antifascists participated in the day of solidar-
ity with Jock Palefreeman, an Australian antifascist imprisoned in Bulgaria
for defending two Roma men who were being attacked by white suprema-
cist soccer hooligans. This incident occurred in 2007 while Jock was trav-
eling through Bulgaria. During the melee, one of the attackers was killed.
Chicago antifascists stood outside of the Bulgarian consulate passing out
liers for Jock Palefreeman who is currently trying to serve the rest of his
sentence in Australia to be closer to his family.
On July 31st, in conjunction with the day of solidarity for Jock as well as
the annual July 315t day of action against fascism and racism, antifascists
all across the city helped in sticker campaign promoting support for
Palefreeman. 200 stickers were placed all around the city that read “Fuck
Fascism Fuck Racism” with a link to Jocks website.
Antifascists in Bloomington, IN held a hip hop shows partially for Jock
Palefreeman. Aside from speaking with folks about Palefreemans case, they
were able to raise some money for him.

after they threatened protestors in Ferguson, Mo. with “lethal force” In re-
sponse, the online hacker group donned their digital cape, took over the
‘group’s twitter account and posted an image of a Klansman hanging from a
noose. Then the doxxing began.
Asnews reports swirl that the Grand Jury may release their decision on Mon-
day in the case of Officer Darren Wilson fatally shooting Michacl Brown,
the KKK thought itd be cool to pretend like they were in The Ghosts of
Mississippi. One guy named Franck Ancona, according to Raw Story, even
handed out fliers calling the protestors “terrorists” and boasting “We will
use lethal force as provided under Missouri law to defend ourselves” In true
Klan fashion, Acona, who is a part of the Traditionalist American Knights of
the KKK, said he had to take action because white folks were under “attack”
In response, Anonymous posted photos and home addresses of a few local
St. Louis Klansmen. The Klan complained about an “invasion of privacy”
and took to Twitter to say that Anonymous was an harmless organization.
Anonymous probably got tired of their whining and just took over the hate
group’s Twitter account on Saturday with the following tweet.
At press time, the group is still controlling the KKK's Twitter account, and
followers are rolling in, which I'm not sure is the best outcome,

2014 TORCH CONFERENCE

South Side ARA hosted the first annual TORCH antifascist net-
work conference in Chicago. This conference is the time and place in which
the TORCH network strategizes for not only internal growth but for our
resistance against fascism, white supremacy, and the right. In attendance
were delegates from Philly Antifa, Central Texas ARA, Milwaukee Antifa,
HARM, ARA-LA/PART, and of course South Side ARA. This time is also
utilized to build antifascist culture, which s why we hosted a public event
with speakers, bands, and tons of antifascist literature and merchandise.
‘The public day was held at Chitown Futbol. At around 5:30 the speakers
started. Both Matthew Lyons and Michael Staudenmaier gave great pre-
sentations followed by Q&A. There were tons of groups present such as the
War Zone distro, Black Rose, and TWW tabling with literature and merchan-
dise. Groups within the TORCH network were also tabling and had tons
of anti-racist t-shirts, some of which were completely free. By about 7:30
Mandatory Abortions kicked off the show followed by La Armada, Krang,
Wartorn, Wrathcobra, and ATU. At the end of the night hundreds of dollars
were made to support antifascist political prisoners.
‘The night went on with no disruption from the fascists or the state and the
2014 TORCH conference was a huge success. Thank you too all the bands,
speakers, organizations, and individuals who came out to support. A special

thanks to the Chicago May Ist Anarchist Alliance and the Black Rose An-
archist Federation for sponsoring the event. South Side ARA has spent the

TIPS FOR ANTI-FASCIST STREET BATTLES
1.) Preparing in Advance
+ After receiving intel on a march, meeting, or show where fascists are gath-
ering it is standard and highly recommended to case(check out) the terrain
you will be battling ona head of time.
« Discuss tactics. Best route of action, back up plans, escape routes, roles/
duties(scouts, strikers etc.), decide buddies(see #2) emergency contacts and
have a ittle saved money if possible.
+ When discussing roles, be open and realistic about your comfort zone. Be-
ing a striker and not following through can result in a comrade’s loss.
+ Weaponry. If you prefer to bring weapons, take ones that are legal and/or
unconventional; u-locks, bike tools, etc. Having the numbers, the element of
surprise, and training is always the best weapon.
+ Train. Regular self-defense training will not only make you more confident
and fit for battle but is a good tool for building camaraderie with your crew.
2.) Fight smart, not strong
+ Safety in numbers: 2-1 is good, 3-1 is better. Anti-fascism isnit won by
being the toughest its about being smart and prepared. The fascists don't
understand this and that is why they are rarely victorious. We must always
Win so unless we are in a defensive position, we should aim to have the ad-
vantage every time.
« Element of surprise. Getting the jump on someone when they donit expect
it gives you the advantage, especially when you are dealing with someone
who might be a better fighter. Not to mention you have prepared for this
battle and they likely did not. Never let the enemy know when and how you
will strike.
« Buddy system. Travel in groups of two. Have a buddy and don't leave cach
other behind.

« Be tactical when choosing clothing. Blackbloc in mid day with a cadre of 5
may not be the best idea. Consider plain clothes(workelothes, jogging out-
fits, etc) upon plain clothes. This will allow you to be more stealthy, to scout
better, and to escape casier.
« Have enough money to take public transportation, taxi or whatever home
in case you get separated.
« Don't have illegal substances that may worsen your legal situation if you
are arrested.
« Hit and retreat. Self explanatory. Make your move(s), make it good and
quick, and back out. Don't get greedy.
+ Never leave a comrade behind.
3.) In case of arrest
« Be prepared ahead of time. Have some cash available for emergency bail
funds. Try to have a lawyer who can be on call.
« Ifarrested, do not give any verbal or written statements, do not agree to be
interviewed, or sign anything, If everyone keeps their mouth shut,everyone
‘may go home. The magic words are “I have nothing to say, I want to see my
lawyer”
.+ Have people not involved with the action on call who can be notified if
something goes wrong. Understand basic legal support roles includingrais-
ing money to post bail and calling the local precincts or look online to locate
where people are being held and what charges they are facing.

4.) Post action
+ Keeping a scout nearby to observe what happened during and after after
wards can be useful. Especially if cops get involved.
+ No need to brag. keep your lips sealed outside of discussing successes and
failures with your comrades.
+ Be sincere about your mistakes and failures. The fascists will always be
dishonest about there losses and it doesnit do anything to prevent it from
happening again. Don't feel the need to let the world know they are lying ei-
ther, anyone with experience can see through the b.s. and more importantly,
the fascists know what happened, and so do you.

While Chicago was in rebellion
against the western military super-al-
liance NATO summit in 2012, a small
group of racists organized their own ‘white nationalist economic summit' in
the nearby suburb of Tinley Park. They booked a restaurant to hold a lun-
cheon under the guise of the “Illinois European Heritage Association. For
over six months this event was promoted on Stormfront.org, a very popular
online forum where racists and neo-nazis converse. Being in a prolonged
state of resistance against racism, this summit became known to organized
anti-fascists throughout the Midwest. Through rescarch, they had ascer-
tained the time, location, and even some identities of the attendees of this
‘meeting, some of whom were already known as being members of white su-
premacist groups such as the KKK, National Socialist Movement and Coun-
cil of Conservative Citizens. Upon becoming aware of this information, my-
self and others decided to confront the fascists at their meeting, A righteous
melee ensued, many of the ten white supremacists were injured, and we left
the scene in less than two minutes.
In the aftermath, the police was called and two of the fascist attendees were
arrested one for being a fugitive of pedophilia charges in another state and

the other for illegal possession of firearms i their car onsite. Unfortunately
after leaving the restaurant, five comrades from Hoosier Anti Racist Move-
ment were also arrested for their involvement by an off duty cop. They are
known as the Tinley Park 5, all of whom spent time in Illinois prisons af-
ter taking a non-cooperative plea, and have since been released on parole.

A year after the action, in July 2013, I was arrested outside my home by the
FBI and Tinley Park Police. I was charged with armed violence and mob
action, the same as the other 5 anti-fascists. My indictment states the Tinley
Park Police were given a report from the FBI stating that they had identi-
fied me from DNA gathered at the scene and a surveillance video from the
restaurant where the meeting was shut down. I was held in Cook County
Jail for two months but was fortunate to have friends who raised enough
‘money to release me on bond. I have since been fighting these charges. The
wheels of the bureaucratic judicial system moves deliberately slow and an-
other whole year and a half passes. Now, even with the privilege of being
able to examine all the evidence and evaluate all of my options while out
on'bond, I must accept the judge’s offer of 3.5 years. My chances of winning
the case were very low, and if I lost, it could potentially mean a significantly
higher sentence.
It is difficult to decide whether to plea or not when faced with gambling
years of your life in prison, but I also completely detest the narrative of the
state and their courtrooms. Their story is that they rightfully apprehended
the criminal, tried, and put them away in prison;where they will learn not
to do it again while separated from society where they cannot spread their
infectious ideas. That system does not work and it never will. T abhor this
monopoly of justice and violence; the reality is that the state wants people
in their prisons especially people whose political interest are in conflict to
the “business as usual” violence that their police and armies perpetrate. My
crime is standing up against the flag of hate and the violence against people
of color that it represents. The state, in a petty act, went out of their way years
later to prosecute me.
Furthermore, the state has always supported a white supremacist power
structure. Even after the endless series of racist wars and hundreds of years
of oppression on this soil, they don't see it as a problem when neo-nazis get
together and in fact grant permits and have lines of police to protect their

free speech. In Ferguson, New York, Chicago and beyond, we see police use
military grade equipment in conjunction with the National Guard to combat
people protesting the unjust murders of Mike Brown and Eric Garner at the
hands of law enforcement. These are not isolated incidents, but rather symp-
tomatic and indicative of a deliberate move to uphold the pillars of white
supremacy in this country, which will not change unless we fight against it.
I went into this action following the principles of anarchy, equality and free-
dom which have guided my life. For many years I have been involved in
different projects engaging social justice, from volunteering at social centers,
community public libraries and food distribution programs.I have also sup-
ported and participated in anti-war, environmental and immigrant rights
‘movements. Through these experiences I became more aware of how the
system that governs this society depends on the mass exploitation of large
parts of the population and in fact the Earth itself for the profit of the rich and
powerful. I was inspired and motivated by the people I met in the movement
to strive to make change at the root of the problem, even if it meant possibly
sacrificing my own personal freedom. Throughout history, any movement
that struggled to change this system was considered dangerous by the gov-
ernment and was met with immense repression and state violence. But there
were successful moments within these movements not only because they
were justified, but because people fought for them and despite how history
s presented like a Disney movie, not all o their actions were non-violent.
Today there still is police brutality, a massive prison industrial complex,
there are presidents waging endless wars for profit and power, and there is
violence, alienation and marginalization at the crossroads of gender, sex-
uality; race and class. It would be naive to think that all of these problems
could only be solved through pacifism; working with or within the system,
following dogmatic and assimilative reformist agendas that take over and
sell out movements; the answer lies in creative resistance that utilizes a wide
diversity of tactics. I think some people have always known this but more
need to reject the privileged tendency to reject destruction of property, or
of the bodies protecting the state as taboo violence instead of as a legitimate
form of resistance. As our collective patience is constantly being worn away
by failures of government to address people’s actual needs, it is up to our
own communities and individuals to decide for themselves what is an ap-
propriate form of self-defense

But I would also like to note that the hyper-spectacularization and priority
of violence amongst folks in the movement might also be folly, because I
believe it in itself is not sufficient for a real radical transformation of society.
People need to look within to make the change they want to see in the world
as well as raise hell in the streets. People are improving their communities
through their own support, healing circles, discussion groups, rallies, speak-
outs, prisoner support, popular education, community health projects and
asking hard questions and challenging oppressive thoughts however they
manifest.
‘The ideas and actions that these white supremacists are pushing are danger-
ous and poisonous and is unfortunately still deeply rooted within the fabric
of this society. Racism manifests itself in a number of ways and none can be
ignored; from the blatant and overt bigots like those at the meeting in Tinley
Park but also the subtle micro-aggressions that people experience on a daily
basis. We are all obligated to confront the dead old ways of these oppressive
ideologies using every means possible. My actions were in the spirit of con-
tinued resistance against racism and fascism and for the rights of people to
live without fear of racist attacks. Those in struggle know the risk of ail, pain
or death when trying to radically change the structure of society but it is a
struggle we cannot ignore and we intend to win!
After the interruption of the meeting in Tinley Park, the organizing group
for their economic summit disbanded and the individual who booked the
event said that they were “stepping away from white nationalist organizing”
When a comrade is arrested the movement bears a high cost but actions like
these can prove affective as they dissuade people from joining hate groups
and preventing the work that they do. I feel these tactics could also apply
to different avenues of struggle, directed towards exploitative bosses, racist
cops, gentrifying landlords, sexists anywhere, and fascist politicians.
Some people have speculated my arrest was part of some revenge plot of the
FBI because of the hacking and whistle-blowing my brother Jeremy Ham-
mond has done against various sectors of the government and the private
intelligent corporations they work with. While Ilove and support my broth-
erand his actions 1000% and condemn the FBI and the US government for
their own cyber wars they wage, I think it is unlikely that was the reason
why T was held in custody. As stated earlier, the FBI did provide a report to
the local police putting some of their pieces together which raises questions

to why they would consider a bunch of neo-nazis getting beat up a mater
of national security. Regardless, my brother and I were both apprehended
because our actions were not carried out with absolute precision and every
precaution made to disguise our identities and ensure we would not be bust-
ed.
However, it is absolutely true that we live in a vulnerable society with ex-
treme governmental overreach, where anyone could be subject to surveil-
lance, entrapment, targeted prosecutions and trumped up treason and ter-
rorism charges purely for ideological reasons. It is a context deliberately
cooked up by politicians and the national security complex to create fear
and distrust amongst activist circles, as we can see looking at the huge num-
ber of dissidents who have been jailed or killed. Again, I'll state my respect
for political prisoners in any country who are staying strong and struggling
1o fight the power. I would encourage anyone who considers taking direct
action to know why they are doing it and do so carefully as to not jeopardize
themselves, their comrades, or the movement itself. A person in prison is
another person we have to free.
To those whose worlds were shaken and who are angry or displeased at
my actions, remind yourselves humbly of the atrocious history of violence
that white supremacy has done and continues to o so to this society and.
ask yourself, o I support t? Do I benefit from it? Will this be my legacy? Or
do T'want to change it?

PASSES IN INDIANA

If you're gay, non-Christian, non-Caucasian, or could just be assumed to
hold any of those or other minority statuses, you probably want to stay far
away from Indiana. On March 23, and with a 63-31 vote, the Hoosier State’s
legislature passed a controversial bill that now legalizes discrimination.
‘The Religious Freedom Restoration Act allows businesses to refuse service
to anyone due to beliefs and differences in faith, and which that business it-
self gets to determine. It allows individuals to cite religious beliefs as defense
in lawsuits, as well. And when it comes to employment, the Act “prohibits
an applicant, employee, or former employee from pursuing certain causes
of action against a private employer” The Act also overrules any existing
anti-discrimination laws that are already present in Indiana cities.
Ithad little public support, however, and major employers in Indiana public-
Iy opposed the bill, as well, as did the state’s Chamber of Commerce. Smaller
private companies along with citizens of strict faiths were the only propo-
nents.
‘The s00n-to-be-law bill has a homophobic foundation, Huffington Post re-
cently reported, and with original intentions of allowing businesses to refuse
to serve and hire members of the gay and lesbian community based on reli-
gious opposition. The discrimination now allowed by the Act could extend
far beyond the LGBT community, however, opponents say.
According to the Human Rights Campaign, the loosely-worded law will al-
low one’s religious beliefs to interfere with others’rights. For example, a re-
ligious pharmacist could legally refuse to fill a prescription for birth control
medication. A police officer could refuse to patrol near a church that's not
of his religion. A pro-life doctor could withhold information from a woman
whose life would be threatened by full-term pregnancy, and to prevent her
from secking an abortion. The beliefs of particular Christian sects would
also legalize their discrimination against women and divorcees, and even
against minorities (remember - the KKK identifies itselfas a Christian orga-
nization). Indiana's bizarre law could set precedent for other states to follow:
Atleast 85 anti-LGBT bills were recently filed in 26 state legislatures, the
Human Rights Campaign says.
Last week Indiana Gov. Mike Pence said he would sign the bill into law
shortly after its passage.

to “guard white businesses.”
The Southern Poverty Law Center
(SPLC) first reported last week that
that the New Empire Knights of the
Ku Klux Klan had begun raising
money in support of the Ferguson
police officer who killed Brown.
On Friday, the New Empire Knights announced that it would be holding a
fundraiser on August 23-24 in Sullivan, about 60 miles from Ferguson.
“With the police state in Ferguson, we will be holding our fundraiser in
Sullivan City, MO the announcement said. “Donations of $10 and up. All
money will go to the cop who did his job against the negro criminal”
New Empire Knights Imperial Wizard Charles Murray said in the comments
section of the group’s website that the event was “being attended by 3 differ-
ent Klan fractions”
And to anyone thinking of trying to get in the way, Murray warned, “we
have guns (and more)”
“We are raising money for a cop who shot a n*gger criminaly” he explained.
Ina statement on Monday, Sullivan Mayor Thomas Leasor said that the city
had seen reports about the KKK's plans.
“City elected officials nor City staff is aware of the specific location for the
gathering or have any details regarding the event;” the statement said. “On

behalf of the City of Sullivan elected officials and City staff I want to empha-
size that we have not, or will not, endorse or condone any activity based on
hatred, more specifically any activity based on hatred towards any ethnicity”

pendent News that the event being held next weekend should not be con-
sidered a “rally”
”We are not holding a rally. We are having a fundraiser.” Murray said. ”
Members of ours have been selling items online also. All funds are going to
[the officer]”
On Monday, the New Empire Knights issued a statement about plans to

A Chicago police officer hit a handcuffed, kneeling woman in the head,
while another shouted racially charged comments at her and threatened

Filmed by a security camera during a Chicago Police vice raid at the Copper
‘Tan and Spa in Noble Square last summer, the video appears to show one
cop smack 32-year-old salon manager Jianging “Jessica” Klyzek in the head
with an open hand as she is on her knees, handcuffed.
Another large officer yelled at the 110 pound, 5-foot-2 Klyzek — a natural
ized US. citizen who emigrated from China — “You're not Ameri-
can!”
‘The officer then ranted at a screaming and hysterical Klyzek that “T'l put
you in a UPS box and send you back to wherever the f--- you came from,”
before warning her the spas owner “will f----- kill you. .. You'll be dead,
and your family will be dead”
“I cannot imagine Supt. Garry McCarthy can face the citizens of this city
and defend these officers’actions;”said Klyzek’s attorney, Torreya Hamilton,
who is calling for the officers to be fired”
Naturally, the Independent Police Review Authority says they are investi
gating the situation but it has nearly been a year. No report as of yet the
damages Klyzek is seeking in her lawsuit.

“He was knocked out and they were still kicking him in the face and step-
ping on the back of his head and still hitting him, kicking him while he
was down;” said Rice, who had stopped into the bar to drop off food for his
daughter, an employee of the place.
Police charged Lahey, Krapil and Elliott with nothing more than misde-
meanor battery, but Rice met with a detective Tuesday and told him about
the hate speech and the unprovoked, savage attack, and how even a young
woman was punched and kicked by the Miley Cyrus Gang.
‘The detective also spoke with another man allegedly beaten by Elliott in a
different Joliet bar last year. The man, who said he suffered a broken nose,
reportedly picked Elliott out of a photo lineup conducted by police.

One of three men charged with the Miley Cyrus Gang bar beating was hit
with two felony charges for allegedly attacking a man and breaking his nose
in a different bar last year.
Ryan Elliott, 27, of 1310 Cora St. in Joliet was charged with two counts of
aggravated battery. He was booked into the Will County jail Thursday after-
noon and is being held in lieu of $250,000 bond.
Elliott allegedly punched Jim Lanham in the face in June. Lanham said he
was at the Essington Road bar On the Rocks when Elliott—who had been in
a confrontation with other bar patrons—attacked him without provocation.
“I was just standing there;” Lanham said. “I wasnit part of the fight or any-
thing”
Lanham said a punch from Elliott broke his nose.
Elliott was arrested after the fight but prosecutors chose not to file charges
against him. The case was reviewed and charges were filed Friday, five days
after Elliott and two other men—Daniel Lahey, 26, of 2424 Morning Glory
Lane in Crest Hill and Robert Krapil, 27, of 2806 Amanda Court in Joliet—
were arrested for allegedly attacking two men and a woman ata different bar.

A badly drawn Star of David and the words “F - - - U” were among the
scribblings residents awoke to Sunday morning on synagogues, garages and
other buildings in a largely Jewish area of West Rogers Park.
“Its outrageous, It very sad” said one resident, as she saw the words Mon-
day sprayed in black paint on the back side of the tiny synagogue in the 2900
block of West Touhy she's attended for two-plus decades.
In all, a dozen or more buildings appeared to have been hit with the racial
slurs and other profanity.
About 6:40 a.m. Sunday, police responded to the store-front synagogue. Of-
ficers later got word of similar incidents in the 2800 block of West Estes and
the 5700 and 5800 blocks of North Talman. Police labeled the incidents as
criminal damage to property. There had been no arrests as of Monday eve-
ning.

Onelocal rabbi, who didn't want his name used, said the neighborhood gen

here and there. Nobody makes a big deal out of it. 'm from the East Coast.
You know how you know you're in a New York? You see all the graffiti”

“We deplore this despicable alleged act of anti-Semitism, which deeply im-
pacts the entire Jewish community and the community at large,” said Lonnie
Nasatir, regional director of the Anti-Defamation League of the Chicago/
Upper Midwest Region. “This act reflects complete disregard for sacred Jew-
ish institutions and individuals' homes. We applaud the Chicago Police De-
partment for taking this incident seriously and investigating it as a possible
hate crime. We hope that the perpetrator(s) will be brought to justice”

On Saturday, April 25th, the Aryan Nations and other white suprem-
acists gathered on the steps of the old courthouse in St.Louis, MO to call for
the release of Gary Yarbrough. Yarbrough was a member of the Order who
was sentenced to 60 years in prison in 1986 for racketeering and weapons
charges. Not only was Gary’s wife Susan in attendance but there were also
some white supremacists out of Illinois. There were some newer names such
as Kris Evans (Lincoln, L) and Mari Cassidy (East Peoria), as well as some
some familiar faces like Jeffrey Stuart AKA “Thomas Stuart”, Art Jones, and
our favorite national anarchist karate master, Brandon Lashbrook, of the
failed 2014 White Man March.

shouted back to those on the sidewalk shouting “Black Lives Matter” Several
of the speaker’s followers yelled mentions of the Michael Brown incident in
Ferguson.
Anti-Racist Collective member Emily Bland knew about the planned rally
and got a group of about 75 to stage a counter-demonstration, “Racist hate
speech is really just the tip of the iceberg. It goes a lot deeper. As white peo-
ple, itis our duty to stand up for what's right and to educate other white folks
on how racism affects people of color, and to affirm that black lives matter.”
Originally planning to stand silent in the face of the demonstrators on the
courthouse steps, Bland grabbed her megaphone and said to them, “Racism
steals your humanity just as much as it steals the humanity of black and
brown folks”
Bland's group had occupied the courthouse steps for about an hour prior to
the Aryan Nation group’s arrival.
Asasteady rain fell, metal barricades kept the two groups apart and dozens
of police were on standby in the area.

archist theory and quotes from Bakunin, Proudhon, and even Hakim Bey
appear in their writings. They promote small scale communities without
a centralized State. However, they have combined anti-Statism with racial

National Anarchists go out of their way to talk about how they're not fascist,
yet have striking similarities to fascist, far right, white supremacist mov

Clearly, these positions are incompatible with a radical anarchist movement
opposed to racism and white supremacy (regardless of whether they admit
t0 their fascist leanings).
Some might ask why anti-racist anarchists should be concerned with this
fringe movement. One answer is because they actively pursue a strategy of
“entryism” where they enter existing movements and utilize them for their
own ends.
In their own words, entryism s “the name given to the process of entering
or infiltrating bona fide organizations, institutions and political parties with
the intention of either gaining control of them for our own ends, misdirect-
ing or disrupting them for our own purposes or converting sections of their
memberships to our cause” (Southgate “Tradition and revolution” p. 220)
Here in the US., National Anarchists have attended and participated in an-
archist events, such as demonstrations and book fairs. With an anti-State
position, critique of Capitalism and the fact that they embrace other causes
anarchists are invested in (animal rights, environmentalism, opposition to
Israeli militarism, etc.) it is likely that they would have an appeal to some
anarchists, particularly those who are young or new to radical politics.
In a way, these attempts at engaging with Leftists, anti-authoritarians and
anti-racist anarchist scenes make them even more of a threat than groups
that make their racist, white supremacist position more apparent. Their
attempts to recruit from existing anarchist communities makes it essential
that they be confronted and exposed wherever they appear.
In the last several years here in the US,, there have been attempts by na-
tional anarchists to organize in New York (National Anarchist Tribal Ali-
ance-NY), San Francisco (Bay Area National Anarchists) and recently some
National Anarchists have appeared here in Illinois. For example, National
Anarchist Brandon Lashbrook played a prominent role in the utterly failed
Tllinois “White Man March’.

U.S. Fascists Debate the Conflict in Ukraine

‘The Ukrainian fascists who helped seize power in Kiev three weeks ago
have gotten a strikingly mixed response from USS. far rightists. Like others
across the political spectrum, U, fascists are struggling to understand and
respond to the complex situation in Ukraine, and their discussions reveal
some important fault ines and contradictions. Anti-fascists - take note.
As discussed in my previous post, the two main Ukrainian fascist groups
are Svoboda party, whose electoral support surged in 2012 from less than
1 percent to 10.45%, and Right Sector, a paramilitary coalition of far-right
‘groups that regards Svoboda as too moderate. Svoboda and Right Sector are
descendants of the Ukrainian fascist groups that collaborated with the Nazis
and murdered tens of thousands of Jews and Poles. Both Svoboda and Right
Sector played an important role in the western-backed “Euromaidan” move-
ment that toppled Ukraine’s pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych in a
political revolution with real popular support, and they've been rewarded
with key posts in the new government.

S0 you might expect that American fascists would be cheering on their com-
rades in Kiev. After all, when the Greek neo-nazi party Golden Dawn won 7
percent of the parliamentary vote in 2012 and ramped up its violent attacks
on immigrants, LGBT people, and political opponents, US. far rightists
were enthusiastic. But for the most part, their responses to the Ukrainian
upheaval have ranged from ambivalent to hostile, for several reasons. Some
American far rightists are unhappy about the prospect of another war be-
tween Europeans. Some of them consider the Ukrainian fascists politically
suspect because of their involvement in a movement backed by the USS. and
European Union governments. And some of them support the Russian gov-
ernment and its vision of a greater Eurasian Union including at least part of
the Ukraine.
‘The Ukraine conflict is in some ways a throwback to the Cold War, when
many fascists - including the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists -
joined forces with the CIA against the Soviet Union, despite their misgivings
about the US. and western Europes liberal political systems. But even in
the 19505, there were some far rightists - such as Francis Parker Yockey
who advocated an alliance with Russian communism against the “decadent”
West. This position was known as national bolshevism.
Since the 19805, and especially since the collapse of the Soviet bloc in 1989-
1991, the old Cold War alliances have unraveled. To most western fascists,
the main enemy is not Russia (or China) but rather the “Zionist Occupation
Government” (ZOG) in Washington or western-based “globalist elites” bent
on destroying European civilization. Today the main geopolitical debate
among western fascists seems to be whether to stake out a “third position”
between West and East or to ally themselves with the new post-communist
Russian state.
Some fascists outside Ukraine have turned out in support of Svoboda or
Right Sector. The Daily Beast reported on March 2 about a Swedish fascist
group’s initiative to send people and supplies to “support the Ukrainian rev-
olution” But the articles headline, “Neo-Nazis Pour into Kiey” was absurdly
alarmist. The lead organizer for Swedish Ukrainian Volunteers admitted, “If
we get 50, all in all, 1 will be very proud.”

On Stormfront, the largest neo-nazi bulletin board in the US., one contrib-
utor announced that he was heading to Ukraine to volunteer his services
to Right Sector, and urged other westerners, especially those with military
experience, to “come to the aid of fellow nationalists in Ukraine and help
found the first nationalist state in Europe, since 1945” But on the discus-
sion thread that followed, nobody else offered to join him, and only some of
the comments were supportive. Criticisms included, “If you help Ukrainian
Nationalists invade Russian parts of Ukraine, you will put yourself on the
wrong side of history” and “This so called “Ukrainian revolution' is noth-
ing more than the USS. and the UK. stirring up trouble AGAIN, in another
country”
Other Stormfront threads took a more neutral approach. A second con-
tributor lamented, “Why do White people kill more White people??! Canit
they see that ZOG is manipulating them like sheep going to the slaughter-
house?!” while another urged far rightists to brainstorm ways to prevent
war and “loss of white lif¢” in Ukraine, such as the idea that Russia could
buy Crimea from Ukraine. “This would prevent Ukraine from going to the
International (Jewish) Usury Fund and allow also the ejection of some large
section of Tartars [sic] (non-white muslims [sic]) from Ukraine.”
On the Traditionalist Youth Network website, Matt Parrott of Hoosier Na-
tion called the Ukrainian conflict “ideologically ambiguous” and said he
wouldnit pick a side ntil “one faction or another may unambiguously align
with the global identitarian vision” On The Occidental Observer site, Kevin
MacDonald, a prominent white nationalist intellectual, wrote that “Ukraine
is a textbook case of the costs of multiculturalism, a story of competing na-
tionalisms.” but warned Ukraine against allying with the European Union,
since EU anti-nationalism leads to “the obliteration of all traditional Euro-
pean national cultures” “A better solution” he suggested;’ would be to break
up states like Ukraine with large ethnic divisions into ethnically homoge-
neous societies..”
Many American fascists are suspicious of Ukrainian fascists’ right-wing cre-
dentials. Aryanism.net declared “Authentic National Socialists do not col-
laborate with a regime as corrupt as that of the USA, that supports Isracl and
is controlled by Jews, and do not allow themselves to be used as geopolitical
pawns.” On the other hand, the same author wrote that Right Sector “seems
to represent authentic National Socialism (I really hope I am right about

this)?” and praised Right Sector’s commitment to vigilante justice. But Mi-
chacl McGregor of Radix (successor to AlternativeRight.com) argued that
even Right Sector isn't fascist enough, claiming that the group is “dedicated
to a type of civic nationalism where the interests of preserving a state...s
more important than that of preserving their race or even that of their own
ethnic group”
Writing about the Euromaidan protests before Yanukovych had fled Kiev,
Vanguard News Network (VNN) wrote that “the Jews and the internation-
alists (this of course includes America) are angry because the Ukraine won't
“play ball' with the globalist agenda of free trade, global government, non-
white immigration, massive debt via [International Monetary Fund] loans,
hate-crime laws, and other horrible things” In a follow-up article, VNN
added that “Western governments want to bring the Ukraine under Western
influence so they can use it as a possible ‘weapon or at least as ‘watchdog’
against Russia [which] too often goes against NWO [New World Order] or
Jewish interests, e.g., selling sophisticated missiles to Arab countries like
Syria”
Unlike the openly pro-nazi VNN, the Lyndon LaRouche network presents
itself as progressive and anti-fascist, and when the Yanukovych government
fell, LaRouche’s Executive Intelligence Review proclaimed “US.A. and EU,
With Ukrainian Terrorists, Establish Nazi Regime? This is essentially the
Russian government line, although the LaRouchites combine it with their
own elaborate conspiracy theories, notably that both the EU and the USS.
government are really controlled by the British empire. From this perspec-
tive, Ukraine's upheaval was simply a putsch carried out by western govern-
‘ment operatives, in which popular forces exercised no agency of their own.
‘The LaRouchites give no credence to the Yanukovych government’s corrup-
tion and repressive brutality as factors that outraged many Ukrainians and
led them to revolt.
A related analysis was offered by USS. supporters of Aleksandr Dugin, such
as Global Revolutionary Alliance. Dugin is the Russian far rights leading
intellectual, former theoretician of the National Bolshevik Party, and one
of the main figures in the European New Right, which offers a sanitized
fascism as a project to defend “difference” and “ethnopluralism” He has
close ties with the Russian state and is the founder of the modern Eurasian-
ist movement, which envisions Russia as the center of a new authoritari-

an “empire”” Dugin addressed the Ukraine crisis in a recent interview on
the Counter-Currents Publishing website, which blends white nationalism,
antisemitism, and European New Right ideology. He argued that members
of the anti-Yanukovych movement were united not by a desire for political
change or closer ties to the EU, but simply by “their pure hatred of Russia”
Healso found a way to criticize the Euromaidan movement both for includ-
ing neo-nazis and for including progressive groups:
“The left wing liberal groups are not less extremist than the neo-Nazi
groups.... We find especially in Eastern Europe and Russia very offen that
the Homosexual-Lobby and the ultranationalist and neo-Nazi groups are
allies. Also the Homosexual lobby has very extremist ideas about how to
deform, re-educate and influence the society.... The gay and lesbian lobby is
not less dangerous for any society than neo-Nazis”"
Dugin also argued that the hope any Ukrainian fascists might have of pursu-
ing a course independent of major global powers s an illusion:
“There is no ‘third position; no possibility of that.... The same ugly truth
hits the Ukrainian ‘nationalist’ and the Arab salafi fighter: They are Western
proxies. Itis hard to accept for them because nobody likes the idea to be the
useful idiot of Washington....
“There is land power and sea power in geopolitics. Land power is repre-
sented today by Russia, sea power by Washington. During World War 11
Germany tried to impose a third position... The end was the complete de-
struction of Germany. So when even the strong and powerful Germany of
that time wasn't strong enough to impose the third position how [can] the
‘much smaller and weaker groups want to do this today? It is impossible, itis
aridiculous illusion”
However, Counter-Currents also published a sharply different argument by
Greg Johnson, who referred to Dugin as the Russian regimes “apostle and
apologist...whose credibility with ethnonationalists should be reduced to
zer0 by now”” Johnson offered the most sophisticated far right analysis of
the Ukraine crisis that I have seen so far. He argued that “The strife in the
Ukraine is not, at root, caused by Russian or ‘Western' intervention, for these
would find no purchase if Ukraine were not already an cthnically divided
nation” and that “even in the absence of outside influence, Ukrainian Pres-

ident Viktor Yanukovych had to go [because he] is a crook who plundered
his country and was essentially selling its geopolitical alignment to the high-
est bidder in order to retain his grip on power”
Johnson noted that the far right groups Svoboda and Right Sector had
played a remarkably prominent role in the Ukrainian revolution, but as part
of a coalition “which also included centrists, Leftists, feminists, gay rights
advocates, and ethnic minority agitators, including Jews, Tatars, and Arme-
nians.” He argued (echoing Michael McGregor's point quoted above) that
Right Sector “fall far short of National Socialism;” and that ‘of all European
nationalist parties, Svoboda s probably the most radical and consistent, yet
it is also one of the most successful.... Unfortunately, despite an admirable
political platform, Svoboda is at present committed to maintaining the arti-
ficial Ukrainian state” And unlike Dugin (or LaRouche), Johnson refused to
embrace the Russian government:
“Like many White Nationalists, I admire Viadimir Putin because he is an
important geopolitical counter-weight to the United States and Israel... he
has sought to address Russia's demographic crisis, and he looks and acts
like a real-life James Bond. But Putin is not an ethnonationalist. Indeed,
he imprisons Russian nationalists and is committed to maintaining Russia’s
current borders, which include millions of restive Muslims in the Caucasus.
Johnson conceded that if “Putin were to take back the Crimea, virtually rid-
ding Ukraine ofits Russian and Tatar minorities and leaving Ukraine small-
erbut more racially and culturally homogeneous, it might be a case of doing
the right thing for the wrong reason.” And he hoped that Svoboda and other
ultranationalists would eventually bring about “national autonomy for all
peoples within the current Ukrainian borders”
‘These debates highlight the complexity of the Ukrainian upheaval. A pop-
ular uprising has replaced a corrupt, repressive government (representing
a pro-Russian capitalist faction) with a coalition of “austerity™promoting
neoliberals and fascists (representing a pro-EU capitalist faction), which
now faces military intervention in the Crimea by Viadimir Putin's Russian
government. None of these regimes is on the side of Ukraine’s ordinary peo-
ple. As a coalition of internationalists from Ukraine, Russia, and elsewhere
has declared, this s a “power struggle between oligarchic clans [that] threat-
ens to escalate into an international armed conflict”

In dealing with this conflict, fascists are all over the map -- some lined up
with (or in) the new Ukrainian government, some backing Russia, and some
(many in the US.) conflicted or wavering in between. This means that calls
t0 support the Russian government in the name of “anti-fascism” are just as
misinformed or dishonest as calls to support Ukraine’s “democratic revolu-
tion.”

Interview with an Antifascist Prisoner in
Sweden
‘Taken from Threewayfight:
Joel is an antifascist prisoner in Sweden. In July 2014, he was sentenced to
five and a half years in prison for attempted murder, violent disorder, and
carryingan illegal weapon. The sentence followed a collective defense against
a Nazi attack on an antifascist demonstration in Stockholm. The interview
was conducted in the fall of 2014, Explanatory notes have been added.
You were sentenced in connection with an antifascist demonstration in
Kirrtorp, a suburb of Stockholm, in December 2013. Can you tell us about
that day?
During the weeks before the demonstration, there had been trouble in Kir-
rtorp and the neighboring suburbs. The Swedish Resistance Movement
(Svenska motstandsrorelsen, SMR) had tried to establish itsclf in the area.
‘They went through the usual Nazi routine of spraying swastikas on the local
school and attacking people who have no place in the world they envision -
in some cases with knives.
T'm not sure, but I think Network Line 17 already existed before the demon-
stration. In any case, it was this network that organized it. There were indi-
cations that Nazis might show up to disrupt the event, but when I checked in
with people in the morning it seemed that everything was going to be fine.
Since there was a solidarity benefit for an imprisoned antifascist the same
night, T thought I would only stop by the demonstration for a short while
before heading into town to help prepare the evening event. When I got to
Kirrtorp with a few friends, we were about ten minutes late.
Five minutes later, the Nazis came. We saw them from about 200 yards away.
Everything became very chaotic; we weren't prepared and spread out across
the square. We also had very little to defend ourselves with. The Nazis began
to shower us with bottles. It didnt seem to matter to them that there were
many children and pensioners among us. They advanced onto the square
while we retreated.

One of the strongest memories I have from that day is a policewornan stand-
ing between us and the Nazis and then suddenly running away. When I read
the police report later, 1 understood that she went to get her helmet because
of all the flying bottles, but at the time it felt ike this was going to get really
dangerous, even life-threatening. Everyone knows how happy SMR mem-
bers are to use their knives.
Once the initial confusion was over, we managed to gather and start a coun-
terattack. We stopped the Nazis' advance but that was not good enough. A
front line formed. The police didn't have a clue what was going on and beat
usat least as hard as the Nazis. It was stll chaotic, but now we were at least
coordinated. We pushed back the Nazis further, and this is when I first saw
one of them with a knif. I started heading towards him but lost sight. Mean-
while, the Nazis tried to regain ground. There were serious skirmishes and.
T saw another Nazi with a knife. If,at that point, the Nazis had gotten the
upper hand and one of us had fallen to the ground, it could have been fatal.
‘That's when the Nazi closest to us got stabbed.
A number of demonstrators who had first left the square now returned. With
their help, we managed to push the Nazis from the square to the adjacent bus
station, then past some buildings out into the forest. More police arrived
only when we were already at the bus station. I had hurt my knee in the me-
lee and didn't go with the others. Soon, the police shielded off the Nazis and
protected them. I waited for my friends to return to the square, then T went,
as planned, into town to help prepare the evening event.
You said that it wasr't “good enough” to stop the Nazis’ advance. What do
you mean by that?
It is important to understand that the Nazis came to attack us. They didn't
come to have a counter-rally, as they claim. Had it been up to them, they
would have chased everyone from the square and, ideally, hurt some folks
in the process. The attack was not just about preventing people from taking
astand against them, it was also about propaganda. The goal was to prevent
any resistance to their recruitment efforts in the area and to use the action
itself as a recruitment tool. Anyone who doesn't understand this, chooses to
ignore reality. Kirrtorp isnit unique, that’s how it works everywhere. If we
don't fight on the streets, where are we going to fight?

I'm digressing, but it really important to point out how crucial it was to not
only stop them but to chase them out of Kiirrtorp. If you want their activities
to end, this is needed.
You also mentioned that everyone knows how happy SMR members are to
use their knives. Can you give examples?
The readiness of SMR members to use knives is well documented. About
a year before the Kirrtorp attack, a person was stabbed to death by SMR
members in Vallentuna, just outside of Stockholm. Only a few days before
the Kirrtorp attack, someone was severely injured just a few suburbs away.
And at least one of the people who murdered the union activist Bjorn So-
derberg (rest in peace) was connected to SMR. There are more examples, but
these should suffice. MR tries to attract people ~ mostly young ones - with
revolutionary romanticism and a sense of community that builds more on
violence than ideology.
When did you get arrested?
About a week later. I was picking up my son from school.
It seems that you've been active in Sweden's antifascist movement for quite
some time. Can you tell us a little about this?
I grew up in Linkdping during the 1980s and ‘90s. Just like in the rest of
Sweden and Europe, Nazis were on the rise. In Sweden, the “Laser Man”
wreaked havoc, and the band Ultima Thule topped the charts. Linkdping
was strongly affected by this. It was a center for the production of White
Power music and several leaders of the different Nazi organizations that ex-
isted in Sweden at the time were living in or around the town.
1 was born in Chile, so I have personally experienced the everyday racism
that still exists in Sweden. When I was litle, I was physically attacked by
Nazis. Once I got older, I started to fight back and defend myself. I realized
that this made things much easier for me.
When I was 13 years old, I started going to hardcore punk shows. At the
time, the hardcore punk scene was much more political than today. At a gig
in 1995, someone asked me if I wanted to travel with him to Denmark to

protest a march celebrating the German Nazi Rudolf Hess. I didn't hesitate
asecond.
It was during this trip that I really embraced antifascism. I hadn't known
that there was a real antifascist movement out there. Everything in Den-
mark seemed so organized. There were lots of people from all ages at the
demonstration, and this didrit change even when we got into skirmishes
with the police trying to keep us away from the Nazis. You could call it an
initiating experience. It took some time before I got organized myself, but it
was during this trip that I really understood that I was an antifascist
Was the antifascist movement in Denmark better organized at the time
than in Sweden? Has this changed?
Ican't really say how well antifascists were organized in other parts of Swe-
den at the time, but in Linkping there was no organization at all, or at least
‘you didnt notice it. In the late 1990s, however, an extraparliamentary left
developed in Linkoping as well
Tdon't want to go into details regarding antifascist organizing in Sweden, but
once I had gotten involved myself, I noticed that things were really progress-
ing. All aspects improved: research, recruitment, infrastructure. We only
dropped the ball in one respect, and that was tactics. While the Nazis exper-
imented successfully with new forms of politics, we didn't make that leap.
Is the far right a big danger in Sweden? What does the movement look like
today?
‘That depends on how you define the far right. The Sweden Democrats are
now the country’s third biggest party. I reckon that is a big threat. It seems
that the political situation in Sweden mirrors that in the rest of Europe. Far-
right parties are gaining ground everywhere.
With respect to Nazi organizations, there is lttle risk that they will enter
parliament. But Nazis will always pose a physical threat to anyone fighting
them. Whenever Nazis are left alone, they grow. This is evident if you look at
what has happened in Sweden during the last ten years: in towns where an-
tifascists were strong, Nazis pretty much had to abandon their efforts. Those
who deny that connection don't know what they are talking about.

Antifascist activism can sometimes feel tough and unrewarding, but in a
town like Orebro, for example, where Nazis were very active just a few years
ago, there is now basically no activity at all. Other towns where militant
struggle on the street has brought results are Linkping and Gothenburg,
For different reasons, Stockholm is difficult town to work in, but even there:
Nazis have been pushed back several times.
Internationally, Sweden is still seen as an open and liberal country. How
does this go together with the far-right currents that you're describing?
1 think that whenever Nazis go from talk to action, that is, when they kill
immigrants or rob banks, itis usually swept under the carpet. And whenever
this is not possible - for example in the case of Malexander or Kirrtorp ~
the politicians make a big media circus out of it, full of condemnation and
outrage. So either Nazis aren't seen as a problem, or, when they are, the pol-
iticians give the impression that they will take care of it.
What are the perspectives for the country's left?
T assume you mean the extraparliamentary left. Not sure if ' the right
person to ask since I'll be out of the game for some time, but I think there
needs to be better collaboration between different leftist groups and we need
to establish more common goals.
Can you give examples for such goals?
T think we should be active in the areas that concern us all, especially in
those where the underclass is attacked most heavily — this concerns, for ex-
ample, the privatization of council lats or precarious labor relations. I also
think that it is important to engage in small projects where you can actually
experience victories and see that i’s possible to change things. That’ crucial
for our morale. A good example was the campaign against JobbJakt
‘What was it about?
JobbJakt is a website offering jobs. Some years ago, they wanted to introduce
a bidding feature where the person ready to do the job for the lowest wage
would geti. So, say; someone wants his bathroom redone, and then one per-
son offers to o it for 150 crowns an hour, another for 100 crowns, etc. This

s clearly wage dumping and hostile to the working class. It was important
for us not to let such practices take root in Sweden and so we campaigned
against the website - successfully.
You've been stressing the importance of organization in political work.
Can you elaborate on this?
‘The importance of organization speaks for itself. If we o things together we
are stronger. How exactly we are organized is secondary. It can be in a band,
a union, a militant group, a pacifist group, a cultural center, a social center, a
publishing house, a bookshop, or whatever. It doesn't need to be die-hard ac-
tivism either. But it's important that organizing doesnt stop with your own
project. We need to make use of our movements diversity. Networks and
umbrella organizations are important. At this point, the extraparliamentary
left hardly feels like a movement at all.
What is your personal situation like? As a prisoner, what kind of support
do you consider most important?
Right now, I'm at the prison in Kumla waiting for an evaluation. Kumla is
a“Class 1 Prison” in Sweden, that is, 2 maximum security facility. Once the
evaluation is done, T will probably be transferred to another maximum se-
curity facility.
Support? Id be very happy if more people got active and, especially, orga-
nized.
