July 31st, 2010: Call to Action Against Racism and Fascism During the early moming hours of March 27th, a Portiand, Oragon antiacist actiist was shot in what appears to be a well orchestrated atack.Itis |1 suspected that the aftackers were members of o neo- Nazi movement. The victim is a member of the antiacist skinhead movement. a son, a friend ‘and has dedicated the past ten years of his f fo fighting white supromacist organizing. The Portland Poice Depariment has suggested that the shooing is "gang related.” Already facing ‘Support Luke Quemer! mass profests over numerous recent cases of palce brutalty and murder, the police treatment of this case is not surprising, and fis nfo a pat- tom of downplaying racst violence whil targating anti-racist activits. Although police and poliicians attempt {0 portray cities like Porland as welcoming safe places, Portiand and the Pacific Northwest has a violent and dangerous history. For 30 years Portland and the surrounding region has been targeted by white supremacist and neo-Nazi movements. Groups like Wnite Aryan Resistance (WAR) and Aryan Nations waged an ongoing and underground campaign to both recruit young whites and to feror- ize people of color, GLBTQ poople, and ofhers who wero seon as enemiss of thei racist order. The 1980’s were an especiallyviolent poriod n which neo-Naz skinheads with ties fo WAR beat Ethiopian immigrant Mulugeta Seraw to death. But this racist terror has not gone unopposed. Coaltions of antiracist youths, milants from the GLBTQ communites, and individuals ighting for justice and digniy organized to beat back the racists and neo-Nazis. This organizing was often opposed and criminalzed by the authorities who sought to disrupt independent anti-ascist organizing. This situa- ton led organizers to rely on themselves and their own communites. The organizing by anti fascists in Portland was a positive example and has been part of broader, long-torm campaign across the country. From NYC to LA, from Minneapolis to New Orieans, thers is a history of peoples organizing {0 both defond themselves against racist terror, as well as come together to buid mult-acial coaltions to discuss and plan forms of acion to address conficts and crisis in our various communites. The shooting in the context of growing reaction T March 27th shooling occurred within a backdrop of growing Right wing, racist, and ‘emerging fascist organizing and actvity. Thero has been a dramatc escalation of hetoric ‘and action from the broad Right. While al sectors of the working classes and poor face ‘economic and social uncertainty, the racists, the Right wing, and the smaler but signif- cant sections of the neo-Nazi and fascist movements are looking fo divide our class and peoples. Whero there should be united class anger against a system that is continually grinding people down, the Right openly demonsirates is contompt and hatred for our people. Fascists and neo-Nazis are looking for these moments of dvision in which they ‘can move in, ecruit, and carry out their own organizing. Call to Action We propose Saturday July 31, 2010 as a Call (o Action Against Racism and Fascism. We want {0 use the CA to both engage the broad, independent, and radical antiacist/ antifascist movements.
We want mass and varied forms of profest and action. Thess actions can range from: ‘music and D shows; educaional events; outings of known Right and fascist organizers; Stroat protest; immigrant solidarity and anti-minutoman action; and so on. While we want collaboration and coordination when possible, we also want o maximize the impact of this A and thus argue for the groatest degros of creativity and iniative. We encourage individuals and organizations to determin what best works in their locali- s, We support the incorporation of any existng and ongoing anti-racist/anttfascist ac- tion into this CA and imagine the CA as a way fo bolster aiready active organizing. To reierate, we argue for a maximum of creative and independent iniative and ask only that 3) individuals and organizations endorse the callb) any public actions and events be promoted. We wouid not necsssarily seek {0 publih detais of planned actions unless requested to do so. We want fo use the CA as a means to increase collaboration between our forces and work in a popular manner o highiight the need for a mass, radical responso {o racist and fascist organizing. May 17,2010 The Fight Against Fascism: Necessity and Misconception To those with open eyes it seems that this is the bullding period for th fascists and hopefully the antiascists as well. Since Obamas’eleciion the Nazi movement has doubled in size and with that comes the necessily to examine the realiy of the fascist potenial. It s often said by many groups of the poliical spectrum that Nazis are a group that are to be laughed at and to. Some, only pose danger to the extent that they offend or that one may sl ino a positon of poliical power and have some influence. The latie being a scary thought, but only minimally in comparison 1o its contemporary “revolutionary” form. Revolutionary fascism as a term, as. wellas i its physical presence, is not something to be laughed at and more importantly is not Something to be ignored. Revolutionary fascism is a term that describes fascism in ts most dangerous element. A form that no longer secks to gain it power unilaterally or by lobbying but from the ground up. A grass roots movement that preys on the fruslrations of the “potentilly insurgent workers™ (Don Hammerquist, Fascism and Ant-Fascism, Discussion Documents for a miltant move- ment, p.16). In what s called the third posiion Nazi groups abandon their traditional top down, Hitlr style approach and appropriate stances typically voiced by the lefl. Stances such as. antiwar, anti-globalization, and specifically anti-capitalism, are now being supported by revo- Iutionary fascists. To some this may sound like a good thing, a progression or a patiorm to. change minds, however,these positions have a very diferent nterest and intention unique to thosa on the lot Their intention s to seck outside the reformist right n hopes to atract a new ‘and larger crowd, specificalyof the working class, the youth, and those aligning or sympathiz- ing with ideals traditionally valued by the left. Their incentive however, s preservation of the white race, white rights and superiority. With that being said there are two important realies that must be understood in order to dsbunk his poltical appropriation. The frstis, that these stances are only temporary and would change the second the interests of whites were at stake. Lets take Anti-globalization For example, if ike’s outsourcing to china didn’t take jobs ‘away from any white people than the fact that Chiness familles are working 60 hour wesks n ot factory for next to nothing wouldn’ be a problem. The second i, f these effrts o skew the ines that diferentiate reedom from oppression are successful, then the threat of fascism maximizes greaty as does the need for antifascism. Once we realize that the threat Fascism is real, we must then leam to critique some typical left notions on what to do and what not to do. The firstbeing ignoring them; the argument has been made that the fascists pose no real threat and only seek attention, thus ignoring them will make them go away. The realty is that ignoring them will only allow them to organize more effectively and mor rapidly and may minimize the radical efts revolutonary polential by fai- ing to visibly create physical and theoretical oppositon, because ot only wil the un-poliicized masses then be easier led {0 believe the lies but antifascist work I is selfcan be applied to the larger social and polfical dissent. The second is to respect thei “fraedom of speech”. This is the dea that “Everyone has the rgh to say what they believe” o matter what their rhetoric may be. This concept has been voiced time and time again by liberals as well s the fascists. themsalves, however, Fresdom of speech s only o be taken serious in elation o the fascists and the state. Every day people must recognize the importance of eliminating a movement that seeks the genocide of people of color, Queer folk, Jewish people and the physicaly and mentally disabled. It should go without saying that the repression of that ideology is far more. important than the liberal notions of free speech. The last, yet no less destructive notion, on what to do, is to outlaw the fascists, making being involved n their organizations punishable “This tactic has two very important reasons to be dismissed; One is that utlaving them wil ac- tually increase their revolutionary potential, even simply by advancing their urgency or making

Miltant anttfascism has proved many times over to be concrete in ts strategy. Some of ts tactics may be debated under the concept of morality but never in terms of success. When we say miltant anti fascism we speak of the ones who are not only wiling, but understanding the need, to employ direct action against the fascists. Not only physically but mentally and technologically. From sireet batties to group ifilraton radical antfascists seek to infimida, confuse, misinform, expose and create parancia within the ranks of the Fascists. We are also smart enough o keep as far from the state as possible since a great deal o tis work is done. ot within the confines of the law. Although these taciics get the job done, and in both theory. ‘and practice they are sound, miltant anti-fascisms’ more often than not physical and reaction ary state causes some important obstacles to be overcome. First, it can b easy to aract and create a chawinistc presence that is polarizing and oppressive to many groups of people ‘and may also allow itself o overlook less risky yet more, stuationall. successful strategies Second, in regards to being largely reactionary, it sometimes creates a lack of pro-actiiy. ‘and depending on how active the fascists are, our momentum can be slowed down. We must create a more broad range of acton than purely fllowing Nazis and bating on the tur they Gecide. Lastly, the fact that we put 50 muich weight in confronting Nazis carres the abilty to make one more easiy overlook deeper and less obvious facets of racism such as gentriica: tion, white dominance and priviege that oceur and existin not only mainsiream society but n the Activist community as wel. For the latter it s important to realize that this work s currently more ant fascst rather than ant racist. Although racism remains a predominant factor in why. e resist our enamy, realizing this can allow us to better understand that the specirum of anti racist work i far broader and ofte less visible. Fascismis a ealistc threat and must be challenged on al levels. We who understand this and struggle against fascism must critique ts theory, it action, ourselves and, uniike the Nazis, be. honest n our mistakes if we actuall intend to win. Creating Safer Show Spaces “This is a set of quidalines that should be taken into consideration before taking responsibilty for throwing shows or cther public events. A lot of thess issues should be self-explanatory but people have been dealing with 2 ot of oppressive bullsh recently at shows and a ot of it stems from spaces being unorganized and uninformed about why it is important to maintain a safer space. | have been {0 a ot of shows in tis Gty where specic issues address i ths It of guidelines werent handled correctly caused problems, and made spaces unsafe. This st is by no means complete but hopefully will provoke posiiive dsbate and eventually help set Standards for future shows in Chicago and beyond. « MAKE A STATEMENT. Lat it be known that you wil not olerate racism, sexism, homofrans/faiphobia, ablesm, and other forms of oppression. Hang up posters with positive messages around the space and leave fres relevant terature on tables. This will help set the standard of acceptable behaviors. within your space. + RESEARCH BANDS. ‘Gheck out a band’s website, read ther Iyics, and research their members before inviting them to play at your space. Ifthe materal does not raflec the type of environment you want o cre- ate, then simply do not book them. Itwould be a good idea 1 let the band know why they are ot welcome in your space. + SECURITY & CONFLICT RESOLUTION. Volunteers that are sober and involved with the space are good to have around for security ‘and conflictresolution. Having a discussion about how t take care of various conficts ahead of ime with your housemates and volunteers can help reduce the risk of tings gelting out of control ifwhen these things do happen. Securiy is also useful or Smes when accidents hap- pen and an ambulance may be necessary. It is Impossible to watch everyone at al tmes but if something doesn’t look right to you, investigate f possible. Le.: A person that s too drunk o stand up and peaple are trying to take advaniage of them, excessive violent dancing, efc. Trust these volunteers {0 use their best judgment. + DESIGNATED POLICE LIAISON. Its useful to have a designated sober and experienced person to deal with the cops if they. Should arrve. There are more specifc nstructions on the intermet on how to deal with the pigs Guring a party/show seting, but below there is a rough guide (0 aid n doing so. Remove obuiously intoxicated people from rooms closest o the entryways. “Tum down music or ask the bands to discontinue playing unti police leave. ‘Open the door, step ouside, and close the door behind you immediatel to show them they are not welcome in the space and to keep them from seaing anything ilegal that may be happening inside. Politely ask them why they are there. Do not assume why. Be calm and as respectiul as possible. ‘Assure them that the problem wil be taken care of as soon as soon as possible. They held a rally with the NSM and Kian members at the and of September outside of St. Lois, 0no in Skokie in Apr, and a couple of fyering events on’St. Patrck’s Day and Easter. In Chicago, local Nazi punk gangs have been aftacking peoaple of color,immigrants, and queers. Even though they romain quite powerless within he current situation, they are organizing always with the intention of becoming a consti- tuting force that posit faw. In September of 2008, a counter-demo was called against the ANSWP’s demo against Elie Wiesel. But whero o go from here? A storm lurks in the distance. On March 21st of next year, the NSF is planning a “White Pride World Wide March” in Chicago [5] This avent is sure to draw Nazis from across the Midwest and perhaps even the nation, and willundoubtedly become a giant spectacie within a stream of spectacies. March 21,2010 White Pride March Annihilated by Chicago ARA HOW IT WENT DOWN It was a beautiful Sunday Spring aftermoon where the llinois National Socialst Front were. Supposed to march for “Wiits Pride World Wide". But fo the few Nazis that dared show their face in the city of Chicago, there was nothing but a barrage of bows raining on their parade. Southside ARA had been scouting i the downtown area early on, watching out for neo-Nazi skinheads and other white supremacists. Within minutes of their pathetic march of four bone- heads waving white prde flags, clandestine anttfascists took formation and confronted them, successfully delivering U-lock justce to the unsuspecting Nazi rash with rained precision. In broad daylight on Michigan Avenue, Nazis helpiessly had flags ripped from their hands and were beaten down as pedestrians waiched in awe. Later, a police car pulled up and arrested the bewildered and injured boneheads while the anti-fascists switly disappeared into thin alr Showing up seconds later, the pro-diversity / ant-hate rally aid the fnal icing on the cake by ‘surrounding the humilated and obviousiy efeated boneheads and taunted them with chans, holding a ally directy n the path of their march With only a handful of white supremacists wiling {0 publicly show their faces, it was evident that local neo-Nazis were not wiling to get behind the NSF. Their most recent aifempt to march in Chi- cago was a complete failure, their recruitment gatherings have dwindied, their website went ‘Gown for a month at a crucial time for promoting the White Pride March, and they have not responded to phone calls or emails from people asking about public information concerning their events. WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE? Wnile itis casy for us to see a neo-Nazi march as an inrusion of racism into our community, we must also address the way that racism affects our city on a daily basis. Two weeks ago 2 homecwner in it Greenwood posted a sign in his front yard stating "No 1o the Ghetto Wnite Power’, and if you read recent newspaper headines you can see the aftermath of Jon Burge and the inherent racism of the Chicago Police Department. Confronting neo-Nazis and other whit nationalists is only the beginning of siminaling racism, and we intend o align with other organizations to further combat forms of racism that existn extremist groups as well as in sectors of society that are less blatant yet no less important. June 7, 2010 White Supremacist “Nordic Fest” Event Held in Mokena, IL “Nordic Fest” is a white supremacist gathering held every year in Dawson Springs, KY at the Imperial Kians of America headquarters rawing neo-nazs, skinheads and Kian from around the country to see white power bands and bum crosses. We wero surprised and angered to hear that his year’s gathering was moved to Chicago suburb Mokena, IL. But this year was. Significantly more pathetic than usual: only 1-2 dozen people came and the event was crawl- ing with feds. Why? Because a week before the fest, the IKA headquariers was raided by federal authories who arrested IKA "Imperial Wizard" Ron Edwards, hs girfriend Christine Gilette, and Jeremy Kalro for dealing methamphetamines, mariuana, and hydrocodone. So much for ‘family vaes" Plans for Nordic Fest was not looking good and started looking even worse after Blood & Honour Combat 18 publicy withdrew all support fom the IKA. Unfortunately, two days ago now, Ron Edwards of the Intemational Kians of America, 2 group that has been ong and staunch supporters of Blood and Honour; was arrested ‘and charged with manufacturing and distibution of methampethamine as well as ofher phamaceutical drugs. Dan Lipinski (D-I) on Nov. 14, Dan and Midge Hough spoke about how they believed the death of their daughter-indaw and her unbom chid were caused, in part, by a lack of health insurance. Twenty-four-year old Jennifer was uninsured. According to her inlaws, she was not receiving regular pre- natal care and was not properly treated when she got sick. She ended up in an emergency room with double pneumonia that developed into septic shock, had a heart altack, a brain bleed and a stroke. ‘The baby died and Jennifer died a few weeks later. The insurance demands proved so oner- ous that anti-war organizers were forced to change the location of their rally. But the “grassroots” Tea Parters sither came up with the millons of insurance coverage, or got privieged with a pass from Daley Plaza management authoriies who refused 1o give ‘same courlsy to anti-war organizers. Even though n the wesks leading up 1o the rally, Tea Party organizers repeatedly told their ‘supporters to leave their nutter and racist signs at home, a number of kooks defled the orga- nizers’attompts 1o clean up their movement’s image. ‘The lead speaker at their ally was former Republican primary gubernatorial candidate Adam Andrzejewski who, belying the Tea Parters’ claims of being against intrusive government, supports a consiituional amendment banning equal martage rights for gays and lesbians. Racism and Fascism

During the early moming hours of March 27th, a
Portiand, Oragon antiacist actiist was shot in

what appears to be a well orchestrated atack.Itis |1

neo- Nazi movement. The victim is a member of
the antiacist skinhead movement. a son, a friend
‘and has dedicated the past ten years of his f fo
fighting white supromacist organizing.

The Portland Poice Depariment has suggested
that the shooing is "gang related.” Already facing ‘Support Luke Quemer!

mass profests over numerous recent cases of palce
brutalty and murder, the police treatment of this case is not surprising, and fis nfo a pat-
tom of downplaying racst violence whil targating anti-racist activits.

Although police and poliicians attempt {0 portray cities like Porland as welcoming safe
places, Portiand and the Pacific Northwest has a violent and dangerous history. For 30
years Portland and the surrounding region has been targeted by white supremacist and
neo-Nazi movements. Groups like Wnite Aryan Resistance (WAR) and Aryan Nations
waged an ongoing and underground campaign to both recruit young whites and to feror-
ize people of color, GLBTQ poople, and ofhers who wero seon as enemiss of thei racist
order. The 1980's were an especiallyviolent poriod n which neo-Naz skinheads with ties
fo WAR beat Ethiopian immigrant Mulugeta Seraw to death.

But this racist terror has not gone unopposed. Coaltions of antiracist youths, milants
from the GLBTQ communites, and individuals ighting for justice and digniy organized to
beat back the racists and neo-Nazis. This organizing was often opposed and criminalzed
by the authorities who sought to disrupt independent anti-ascist organizing. This situa-
ton led organizers to rely on themselves and their own communites.

The organizing by anti fascists in Portland was a positive example and has been part of
broader, long-torm campaign across the country. From NYC to LA, from Minneapolis to
New Orieans, thers is a history of peoples organizing {0 both defond themselves against
racist terror, as well as come together to buid mult-acial coaltions to discuss and plan
forms of acion to address conficts and crisis in our various communites.

The shooting in the context of growing reaction
T March 27th shooling occurred within a backdrop of growing Right wing, racist, and
‘emerging fascist organizing and actvity. Thero has been a dramatc escalation of hetoric
‘and action from the broad Right. While al sectors of the working classes and poor face
‘economic and social uncertainty, the racists, the Right wing, and the smaler but signif-
cant sections of the neo-Nazi and fascist movements are looking fo divide our class and
peoples. Whero there should be united class anger against a system that is continually
grinding people down, the Right openly demonsirates is contompt and hatred for our
people. Fascists and neo-Nazis are looking for these moments of dvision in which they
‘can move in, ecruit, and carry out their own organizing.

Call to Action
We propose Saturday July 31, 2010 as a Call (o Action Against Racism and Fascism.
We want {0 use the CA to both engage the broad, independent, and radical antiacist/
antifascist movements.
We want mass and varied forms of profest and action. Thess actions can range from:
‘music and D shows; educaional events; outings of known Right and fascist organizers;
Stroat protest; immigrant solidarity and anti-minutoman action; and so on. While we want
collaboration and coordination when possible, we also want o maximize the impact of
this A and thus argue for the groatest degros of creativity and iniative.

We encourage individuals and organizations to determin what best works in their locali-
s, We support the incorporation of any existng and ongoing anti-racist/anttfascist ac-
tion into this CA and imagine the CA as a way fo bolster aiready active organizing.

To reierate, we argue for a maximum of creative and independent iniative and ask only
that 3) individuals and organizations endorse the callb) any public actions and events
be promoted. We wouid not necsssarily seek {0 publih detais of planned actions unless
requested to do so.

We want fo use the CA as a means to increase collaboration between our forces and
work in a popular manner o highiight the need for a mass, radical responso {o racist and
fascist organizing.

The Fight Against Fascism: Necessity and
Misconception

To those with open eyes it seems that this is the bullding period for th fascists and hopefully
the antiascists as well. Since Obamas'eleciion the Nazi movement has doubled in size and
with that comes the necessily to examine the realiy of the fascist potenial. It s often said by
many groups of the poliical spectrum that Nazis are a group that are to be laughed at and to.
Some, only pose danger to the extent that they offend or that one may sl ino a positon of
poliical power and have some influence. The latie being a scary thought, but only minimally
in comparison 1o its contemporary “revolutionary” form. Revolutionary fascism as a term, as.
wellas i its physical presence, is not something to be laughed at and more importantly is not
Something to be ignored.

Revolutionary fascism is a term that describes fascism in ts most dangerous element. A form
that no longer secks to gain it power unilaterally or by lobbying but from the ground up. A
grass roots movement that preys on the fruslrations of the “potentilly insurgent workers™
(Don Hammerquist, Fascism and Ant-Fascism, Discussion Documents for a miltant move-
ment, p.16). In what s called the third posiion Nazi groups abandon their traditional top down,

antiwar, anti-globalization, and specifically anti-capitalism, are now being supported by revo-
Iutionary fascists. To some this may sound like a good thing, a progression or a patiorm to.

thosa on the lot Their intention s to seck outside the reformist right n hopes to atract a new
‘and larger crowd, specificalyof the working class, the youth, and those aligning or sympathiz-
ing with ideals traditionally valued by the left. Their incentive however, s preservation of the
white race, white rights and superiority. With that being said there are two important realies
that must be understood in order to dsbunk his poltical appropriation. The frstis, that these
stances are only temporary and would change the second the interests of whites were at
stake. Lets take Anti-globalization For example, if ike's outsourcing to china didn't take jobs

Once we realize that the threat Fascism is real, we must then leam to critique some typical
left notions on what to do and what not to do. The firstbeing ignoring them; the argument has
been made that the fascists pose no real threat and only seek attention, thus ignoring them
will make them go away. The realty is that ignoring them will only allow them to organize more
effectively and mor rapidly and may minimize the radical efts revolutonary polential by fai-
ing to visibly create physical and theoretical oppositon, because ot only wil the un-poliicized
masses then be easier led {0 believe the lies but antifascist work I is selfcan be applied to
the larger social and polfical dissent. The second is to respect thei “fraedom of speech”. This
is the dea that “Everyone has the rgh to say what they believe” o matter what their rhetoric
may be. This concept has been voiced time and time again by liberals as well s the fascists.

Creating Safer Show Spaces

“This is a set of quidalines that should be taken into consideration before taking responsibilty
for throwing shows or cther public events. A lot of thess issues should be self-explanatory
but people have been dealing with 2 ot of oppressive bullsh recently at shows and a ot of it
stems from spaces being unorganized and uninformed about why it is important to maintain a
safer space. | have been {0 a ot of shows in tis Gty where specic issues address i ths It
of guidelines werent handled correctly caused problems, and made spaces unsafe. This st
is by no means complete but hopefully will provoke posiiive dsbate and eventually help set
Standards for future shows in Chicago and beyond.

« MAKE A STATEMENT.
Lat it be known that you wil not olerate racism, sexism, homofrans/faiphobia, ablesm, and
other forms of oppression. Hang up posters with positive messages around the space and
leave fres relevant terature on tables. This will help set the standard of acceptable behaviors.

+ RESEARCH BANDS.
‘Gheck out a band's website, read ther Iyics, and research their members before inviting them
to play at your space. Ifthe materal does not raflec the type of environment you want o cre-
ate, then simply do not book them. Itwould be a good idea 1 let the band know why they are
ot welcome in your space.

+ SECURITY & CONFLICT RESOLUTION.
Volunteers that are sober and involved with the space are good to have around for security
‘and conflictresolution. Having a discussion about how t take care of various conficts ahead
of ime with your housemates and volunteers can help reduce the risk of tings gelting out of
control ifwhen these things do happen. Securiy is also useful or Smes when accidents hap-
pen and an ambulance may be necessary. It is Impossible to watch everyone at al tmes but
if something doesn't look right to you, investigate f possible. Le.: A person that s too drunk
o stand up and peaple are trying to take advaniage of them, excessive violent dancing, efc.
Trust these volunteers {0 use their best judgment.

+ DESIGNATED POLICE LIAISON.
Its useful to have a designated sober and experienced person to deal with the cops if they.
Should arrve. There are more specifc nstructions on the intermet on how to deal with the pigs
Guring a party/show seting, but below there is a rough guide (0 aid n doing so.

Remove obuiously intoxicated people from rooms closest o the entryways.

“Tum down music or ask the bands to discontinue playing unti police leave.

‘Open the door, step ouside, and close the door behind you immediatel to show them
they are not welcome in the space and to keep them from seaing anything ilegal that
may be happening inside.

Politely ask them why they are there. Do not assume why.

Be calm and as respectiul as possible.

‘Assure them that the problem wil be taken care of as soon as soon as possible.

Don' give any unnecessary information that may be incriminating to you or anyone else.
Bo assertve in your rght o not allow them entry nto the space.

Ifthey give you an order, ask if you are obligated to comply.

1f you are toid you must comply, understand that i you do not do as they say you may
risk arrest.

Get on the mic and let guests know what just happened onc the polics leave. Ifthere is
a possibilty they may come back, make that fact clear so unarresable people can leave.

+ DEALING WITH UNSAFE PEOPLE.
Ifanyone expresses they fesi unsafe by anyone else’s presenc, the unsafe person must
leave immediately. By ignoring someone’s needs, you are taling them that they should
be the one that isn't welcome and that unsafe paople are.

Following the imprisonment of Bill White and the disbanding of the American National
Socialist Workers Party (ANSWP), linois remained relatvely quiet after the ANSWP's
astevent, a protest against an Elle Wiesel specch at St. Xavier University. But during the
current cisis, neo-Nazi slements have boen gaining in strengih. Some former ANSWP
members regrouped to form the linois National Socialist Front (NSF). The llinois NSF
has been having monthly barbeques throughout llnois, drawing as many as thiry at-
tondees to each barbeque. They held a rally with the NSM and Kian members at the and
of September outside of St. Lois, 0no in Skokie in Apr, and a couple of fyering events
on'St. Patrck’s Day and Easter. In Chicago, local Nazi punk gangs have been aftacking
peoaple of color,immigrants, and queers. Even though they romain quite powerless within
he current situation, they are organizing always with the intention of becoming a consti-
tuting force that posit faw.

In September of 2008, a counter-demo was called against the ANSWP's demo against
Elie Wiesel. A shouting match ensued, there wer a lof moro antr-fascists then fascists,
‘and in the ond, the Nazf's van had istres popped.[2] Allin al iberals and the police neu-
tralized any revolutionary Anti-fascist fforts; froe speech won the day, and a message of
antihate provailed. Perhaps the Nazis were influenced by the vandaizing acton of some
erson(s), but more lkelyIof with a sense that they can safely demonsirate in Chicago.
Overthe summer,the NSF attempted a demo a the Interational Socialst Organization’s
national socialst gathering, Socialism 2009. With only a fow members prosent, and a
crow of hooligans ready to et them, the Nazis simply went home.[3] In November,
‘some anti-ascists convinced Phillp Anderson, leader of the NSF and another member to
‘come uisit Chicago on the grounds that they wore interested i starting a Chicago NSF-
Unit Naturally the NSF members got the shitbeat out of them, and even botter, because.
they wero seen puling a knie, they got amested and sveryone oise got away. And finally
al50 in November, David Iving, a Holocaust denier and Nazi sympathizer, attompied to
anange a speaking ovent in the Northwest Suburbs, and fol vicim o hooliganism as he
0 frequently has throughout his speaking tour. Haing had s0 many previous encoun-
tors, he had a cop (who was quit lterally a Nazi) present 4] but was unable (0 stop the
aisruption. Almost a dozen people burst nto the restaurant; masked and clad in biack,
they began o throw chairs, scream, ruin his merchandise, and oven scuffle with attond-
es before exiting.[5] Unfortunately in the antifascists efforts to pick up a comrade left
behind, a car circling the aroa was stopped by police, and the passengers wore takon to
Jail and given disorderly conduct charges.

These effrts are (o be applauded to the extont that the content of antifascism was not
an appeal fo an altemative of more democratic values or a moro capitalist capitaism,
but that the gesturos alone revealod everything necessary; a commitment {o stomping
out fascism at any costs, and moro importantly, no desiro fo appeal (o its democratic
Sistor system of management. But whero o go from here? A storm lurks in the distance.
On March 21st of next year, the NSF is planning a “White Pride World Wide March” in
Chicago [5] This avent is sure to draw Nazis from across the Midwest and perhaps even
the nation, and willundoubtedly become a giant spectacie within a stream of spectacies.
Porhaps the racent “Inglorous Bastards Bloc” in Phocnix provides an example of how
o procoed.7] Any events that involve anarchists publicly packing heat, lo alone when
Nazis aro around, perks our interest. But more importanty (to the extent it influences
conditions materially), the discourse surrounding the demo was framed in ferms of *An-
archists/Fascists”, "ProlotariayCapitar’, and ‘Racism/Anti-racism”. It was many things,
but it was never “DemocracyFascism”. When the conrontation here ensuos, the police
could simply prove too much of an obstacie for us — unless we are incredibly diligent in
recruiting comrades locally and from around the country. By framing the discoursa in the
‘same manner as Phoenix, we can immensely aid our local efforts by not only stiking
‘against Fascism, but weakening and defaming the counter-revolutionary monolith that
s Chicago’s estabiished left A diroct assault against their ignominy will take the form of
‘expasing the poverty of their discourse. Their narcissisic rage wilform smiles across our
lps,ifwo can manage it

Moro crtcally, thero have been imitations that we would like o see transcended con-
coming local anttfascist hooliganism. The hostiiies (o this point have boen waged in
a private manner; like two gangs competing for power, can we instead find methods
for a moro inclusive hooliganism or collective forms of violence? Imagine not just ARA
chapters that fought the NSF. but old women throwing vegatables and kitchen utensis
s they walked down the sireet, bus drivrs rofusing to transport them cfc. By making
t a public afair, e can alsa eliminate the suicidal tendency implii i taking them on
alons, and perhaps even increase our power by genoralizing social confict. But the mili-
tant form, simila {0 the ELF and ALF, has ot necessariy transformed the content; nor
has it amplified hostities across the social errain. Perhaps if we ar conscious of tis
limitation, such affective gestures between fiiends can alow ther (o roalize it not just
the INSF and other sireat fascists that these tactics can be applied (0o banks, police
Stations, or wherever one locates the flows of capital can be aftacked just as easlly as

White Pride March Annihilated by Chicago ARA

HOW IT WENT DOWN
It was a beautiful Sunday Spring aftermoon where the llinois National Socialst Front were.
Supposed to march for “Wiits Pride World Wide". But fo the few Nazis that dared show their
face in the city of Chicago, there was nothing but a barrage of bows raining on their parade.

Southside ARA had been scouting i the downtown area early on, watching out for neo-Nazi
skinheads and other white supremacists. Within minutes of their pathetic march of four bone-
heads waving white prde flags, clandestine anttfascists took formation and confronted them,
successfully delivering U-lock justce to the unsuspecting Nazi rash with rained precision. In
broad daylight on Michigan Avenue, Nazis helpiessly had flags ripped from their hands and
were beaten down as pedestrians waiched in awe. Later, a police car pulled up and arrested
the bewildered and injured boneheads while the anti-fascists switly disappeared into thin alr
Showing up seconds later, the pro-diversity / ant-hate rally aid the fnal icing on the cake by
‘surrounding the humilated and obviousiy efeated boneheads and taunted them with chans,
holding a ally directy n the path of their march

With only a handful of white supremacists wiling {0 publicly show their faces, it was evident
that local neo-Nazis were not wiling to get behind the NSF. In fact, the NSF didn't even show
Up o their own march; inteligence gathering showed that they had dropped out of particpa-
tion just before the march and had handed it over to other local neo-Nazis, unwilng to com-
plete what they had started.

THE CAMPAIGN AGAINST THE NSF
Several months ago Chicagoland ani-ascisis launched a campaign against the NSF utiiz-
ing a diversiy of tactics including face to face conirontations, iyering the neighborhoods and
schools of individual members, posting their home addresses and phone numbers, intiating
phone campaigns focusing on key Nazi organizers, and multile cases of successful infitra-
tion of ther ranks.

These tactics have achieved successes in that the NSF has become ineffective: six months
‘ago they were openly organizing barbeques, protesting ‘black on white hate crimes”, and the
opening of a Holocaust Museum in Skokie, efc. Their most recent aifempt to march in Chi-
cago was a complete failure, their recruitment gatherings have dwindied, their website went
‘Gown for a month at a crucial time for promoting the White Pride March, and they have not
responded to phone calls or emails from people asking about public information concerning
their events.

WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
Wnile itis casy for us to see a neo-Nazi march as an inrusion of racism into our community,
we must also address the way that racism affects our city on a daily basis. Two weeks ago
2 homecwner in it Greenwood posted a sign in his front yard stating "No 1o the Ghetto
Wnite Power', and if you read recent newspaper headines you can see the aftermath of Jon
Burge and the inherent racism of the Chicago Police Department. Confronting neo-Nazis and
other whit nationalists is only the beginning of siminaling racism, and we intend o align with
other organizations to further combat forms of racism that existn extremist groups as well as
in sectors of society that are less blatant yet no less important.

CONCLUSION
We effectively came togather as a ciy to successiully kick the Nazis out of town. Fierce re-
sistance was delivered and everyone got away without arrest of injury. To the defeated Nazi

White Supremacist “Nordic Fest” Event Held
in Mokena, IL

“Nordic Fest” is a white supremacist gathering held every year in Dawson Springs, KY at the
Imperial Kians of America headquarters rawing neo-nazs, skinheads and Kian from around
the country to see white power bands and bum crosses. We wero surprised and angered to
hear that his year's gathering was moved to Chicago suburb Mokena, IL. But this year was.
Significantly more pathetic than usual: only 1-2 dozen people came and the event was crawl-
ing with feds. Why? Because a week before the fest, the IKA headquariers was raided by
federal authories who arrested IKA "Imperial Wizard" Ron Edwards, hs girfriend Christine
Gilette, and Jeremy Kalro for dealing methamphetamines, mariuana, and hydrocodone. So
much for ‘family vaes" Plans for Nordic Fest was not looking good and started looking even
worse after Blood & Honour Combat 18 publicy withdrew all support fom the IKA.

Unfortunately, two days ago now, Ron Edwards of the Intemational Kians of America,
2 group that has been ong and staunch supporters of Blood and Honour; was arrested
‘and charged with manufacturing and distibution of methampethamine as well as ofher

After discussions among the various crow heads in the US that make up Blood and Hon-
‘ourUSA, we have collectvely decided that at tis i, given the amount of evidence- not
oy that which led to his being charged- but also that of individuals that have withessed
behaviours of this type- that Blood and Honour USA s pulng any and all support from
the Nordictest music festival and also any and al support o the IKA. W aro planning to
reschedul the event on the following weekend {0 be held in Chicago, I.- the details of

Drugs, drug users, and those that market them cannot and wil not be tolerated- regard-

when police and the media approached the property owner about the gathering, he claimed
he had no knowledge of the organizer's racist affiations and told numerous newspaper ar-
tickes thatthe event had been cancalled. We wera not convinced and soon reports were com-
ing in from Mokena residents who spolied skinheads, confederate flags and ‘event parking

signs suggesting the event was taking place after al. Eventually newspapers confirmed the
rally actually happened

After roports that a “white pride” rally had been canceled, an informal gathering st was
held Saturay at property in Frankiort Township noar Mokena, police said.

The property owner was denied a camping permit for the cvent, Will County sherif's
police spokesman Pat Bary said. But that denial isn't enough o prohibit an informal
gathering on private property.

Nordic Fest, a white supremacist rall descibed by organizers as a throe-day “annual
white pride and music fostival” had been planned for his weekend. Deputies reportedly
‘met with the property ownor Thursday and urged him to cancel the event. He had been
unaware of the group's plans beforo that time, the Herald-News of Jolist repored.

On Frday, Bany said the owner told pofice “he had mads calls o the organizers that their
‘ovent would not be welcome here.” But Bary later said a dozen (o two dozen peoplo at-
tonded the informal gathoring on the property. near Wolf and Cleveland roads. Ho said
‘extra patrols were addsd fo the aroa Saturday.

*ur main concern is that we keep the peace and that no laws are violated,” Barry said.
Bary said there had been no calls or problems rolated (0 the gathering as of Saturday
aitomoon. He said people wers at the site Friday night, when giant Confederate flag
was hung on a ree. Attendees declined Saturday to comment.

Without permits, people at the informa gathering could not nstal restroom faciltes or

charge admission, Barry said. But because the property is private, a gathering can be
held, provided no laws are broken.

Daley Plaza a month before were met with demands.

for themselves, but simila polcies for each of their
vendors. The insurance demands proved so oner-
ous that anti-war organizers were forced to change
the location of their rally.

But the “grassroots” Tea Parters sither came up with the millons of insurance coverage, or
got privieged with a pass from Daley Plaza management authoriies who refused 1o give
‘same courlsy to anti-war organizers.

Even though n the wesks leading up 1o the rally, Tea Party organizers repeatedly told their
‘supporters to leave their nutter and racist signs at home, a number of kooks defled the orga-
nizers'attompts 1o clean up their movement’s image.

‘The lead speaker at their ally was former Republican primary gubernatorial candidate Adam
Andrzejewski who, belying the Tea Parters' claims of being against intrusive government,

ists. They hate capitalism. They hate successfulindiiduals.” 4]

Besides an array of assorted rightwing crackpots,
the Tea Partirs drew at least a few Nazis, who ap-
parently view the Tea Party movement as a potential
recrutting ground. Her is one of them at Thursday's
rally: Nazi organizer idenified by South Side Anti-
